Danno Posted October 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2005 I've been called a cheerleader for this line so in the interest of balance and objectivity I though I should meantion a few things I dislike about X...here goes, feel free to add... -I really dislike tendering with lifeboats...hot, no ventilation, nasty for the elderly to board, too crowded (max occupancy figure should NOT be the goal), noisy, stinky...yuk. -Lousy TV...poor selection of shows, repeated over and over and over, lousy "reception"...and why does the TV have to come on at MAX volume!! -The "art" work....others may find value in it...but after 12 X cruises, and I've tried to be open minded...I just don't get most of it. -The worst burger buns anywhere, at the grill...how every other baked good is SOOOO wonderful...then there's the burger buns  . -The water in the bathroom...hot and REALLY HOT!! Where's the cold?? Small things...(now I'll go from being a cheerleader to being a whiner :p ). I'm not sure who the new president is, but I expect he'll be getting right on these things now. ahoymatey3 Posted October 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2005 Whine away. I talked with several people on my last HAL cruise that said X was soooooo much better. I had to try X, but I must say the Maasdam is a hard act to follow. My 11/18 transatlantic on Millennium will be my 1st with X. I've read a few comparisons (HAL vs. X) and they've helped keep my expectations in check. Any other 'bads'?
Blazerboy Posted October 19, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 19, 2005 Well someone's going to post it, so it might as well be me: "I hate that they make me go home at the end of my cruise!" Serious dislikes? Hmmmm. 1. Installed (as opposed to auctioned) Artwork on Constellation- especially the staircase 'art.' ICK! The Gorilla I can take or leave. But it hasn't stopped me from booking two more cruises on her. Afraid I agree with Danno on the auctions, but have many dear friends who find things they love, so I deign to allow it to continue- nice of me, huh?:D 2. Pastas- in the dining room. hit or miss...and more misses than hits, but don't forget to go to the pasta bar in the buffet- not so bad there. 3. Decor in the deck 11 lounge on Infinity- someone watched the Wizard of Oz, liked Dorothy's dress, smoked something funny, and then picked out those fabrics. Gee, I'm really digging here, so I'll stop. I like cruising in general, so it's pretty easy for me to have a good time, in spite of real or perceived flaws on the ships. Andrew

Blazerboy Posted October 19, 2005 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2005 :o Got me. Almost as bad as my post on a thread asking about sky suites: Closet is larger- great for longer cruises, and you have enough space to have a few people in for a drink without feeling too crowded. ??? Always pushing the envleope:D Andrew
cruising with marti Posted October 19, 2005 #8 Share Posted October 19, 2005 I hate cruising period, X or any other line. I just do it to save my marriage:D Phil
phtktz3 Posted October 19, 2005 #9 Share Posted October 19, 2005 For me it is the Caribbean music they were blaring from the pool deck while we were sailing thru Hubbard Glacier in Alaska on the Summit last month. I just did not understand it, peace and quiet is what you want while visiting the glaciers not the Beach Boys Aruba song:mad: Also, I will have to agree with the artwork it is just nutty and does not match the sophisticated decor of the ship. On the Summit all thru the Emporium were large pictures of Ken and Barbie in all sorts of different poses and outfits....my stepmom absolutely loathed these. newtocc Posted October 19, 2005 #10 Share Posted October 19, 2005 Wine taste'n, what's with those plastic cup thingies? Just pass the bottle around, I'm elite and I want a free buzz! OK, how bout hurricans, I'm trying for the third time to go to Bermuda next week and I'm probably going to Canada -AGAIN! (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) One more thing, no free upgrade, dam, just give me porthole!

Garry Garry -- this is SO strange, and you're not the 1st to mention it. We've been cruising with Celebrity since 2000, and they've not ONCE ever tried to peddle water to us in the dining room. That hasn't slowed them down from selling multiple sizes of overpriced bottled water, water holsters, etc. at the gangway on the way off the ship on port days, but we've never seen it at dinner. Cruise Arizona Posted October 20, 2005 #14 Share Posted October 20, 2005 I hate these sales pitches and then if you missed them live, you can have the fun of watching them over and over again on Celebrity TV I know a lot of people love to shop on cruises, but if I really want to shop I'll just stay home and go to the mall. :D
canderson Posted October 20, 2005 #15 Share Posted October 20, 2005 trust me they are there (in the dining room) Phil Guess our waiters have always had the good sense not to broach the subject with us when they notice that we're Americans. :D In Europe, this offer is made very frequently in restaurants, especially in some areas of the continent -- "Mitt gaz or no?" -- so it's just sort of expected that it will be offered by many Europeans. For those of you who "don't get out much" (OK, just kidding, kinda), this really is one of those cross-cultural things.
Karynanne Posted October 20, 2005 #16 Share Posted October 20, 2005 Let's see...what I hate about an X cruise..... When the waiter tells me that they aren't serving "Rum Raisin" ice cream on that particular night...I pout, sulk, sniffle, and THEN decide on some rich, creamy chocolate thingy. Other than that one HUGE negative, I'm a happy camper, or should I say cruiser. It doesn't take much to keep this girl happy. Karyn

newmexicoNita Posted October 20, 2005 #18 Share Posted October 20, 2005 I can only think of one thing: you named it, some of you, the darn water in a bottle in the dining room. YOW Posted October 20, 2005 #21 Share Posted October 20, 2005 Disembarkation. The process, maybe, but far more so the idea that we have to leave the ship. It usually involves kicking and screaming. ;)
tadjr Posted October 20, 2005 #22 Share Posted October 20, 2005 I wish they would have the pool/hottubs open later (or 24 hours like RCCL). Sometimes I just want to relax at night and thats the perfect way to do it, but they close at 10 or 11. (I know they want you in the casino or bar to buy stuff, but its a great time to just kick back and relax.)

Ericknow32 Posted October 20, 2005 #24 Share Posted October 20, 2005 I don't like that my Hawaii cruise is no longer showing up on Celebrity's web site. I have only sailed Celebrity once at this point, can I blame them for that.
cavkc Posted October 20, 2005 #25 Share Posted October 20, 2005 What I hate about X buffet :- Nothing is labelled - when I asked why not, I was told it is because the staff are there to answer your questions - this must surely get tiresome for them and it did for me. Alright, I don't need to know that tomatoes are tomatoes, I'm not that dim, but labelling other none-obvious dishes would make the service flow quicker. Also, I asked about the deserts several times and the answer 'I'm not really sure'. Sounds really trivial and I LOVE X, it's just one of those little things that niggles every lunch time !
