tinker-bell Posted May 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2016 We will be in Belize on the Carnival Dream on June 16 with family members ranging from 9 to 60ish. We are looking for something to do together that wont break the bank. Any personal recommendations for tours/ tour guides would be appreciated. Thank you. blueasthesea Posted May 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2016 I think you might like the city tour of Belize city, they stop at the rum factory and the Belize signs for you all to take picture. The ruins and city tour combo is nice also , you can contact http://www.waytogotoursbelize.com, they are reasonable and have excellent reviews on TA.
lucigo Posted May 18, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 18, 2016 We did the snorkeling wonders of the barrier reef. There were families of all ages. The snorkeling part is off the beach so some people stayed on the beach, I'm not sure if they booked it as a beach day, but it would be worth checking into. This video gives a little tour of the island and the snorkeling.
Rare crewsweeper Posted May 18, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 18, 2016 One of the most unique excursions available in Belize is cave-tubing. You can find independent vendors with prices per person much lower than the cruise lines. Plenty of reviews here. People 6-80 have done these excursions. Belize City tours will probably be boring for the tweeners and teens in your group. And they couldn't do the rum tour. The beach/snorkeling excursions via independent vendors would be cheaper than cruise line excursions. the key difference is cruise line excursions pick you up from the ship, while you need to take the tender into the pier to catch independent vendors. Again, though, plenty of posts and reviews on this board.
tinker-bell Posted May 18, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted May 18, 2016 Thanks everyone for the recommendations. It looks like we may have to go with the city tour and/or the ruins. There are only 2 or 3 of us who would be up for an adventure such as cave tubing or snorkeling. But Im sure we will get the chance to be adventurous in one of the other ports. For those of you who did the non-ship excursions, did you pre-book or just arrange them when you got there? Thanks again.
Rare crewsweeper Posted May 18, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 18, 2016 In my experience, if you just what a city tour, any taxi driver outside the tender pier can accommodate. If you want a city tour AND ruins (like Altun Ha, nearest the city) you're best to reserve in advance. You will find hawkers outside the tender pier gates but reliability isn't certain. With a prearranged tour, you can select your tour company based on other people's experience and have an ability to check their reliability and know what you're getting. We've had good experiences with Nacho and Cindy(NCQBelize Advenutres) and with Reggie's Tours. We've had poor experience with Coral Breeze (but it was a snorkeling excursion).
