Do you get a lot of vibration or noise at the back of the ships?

If I upgrade to balcony I can do room 7369 on level 7-Empress for a $250 upgrade price or I can do room 9273 on deck 9-Lido for a $293 upgrade price. So for $30 more I can put them on the Lido deck which means they can just walk out the door and be on deck where everything is.

For me I'd rather be on Empress that is where I always book my rooms but being the kids cruise I'm thinking maybe Lido would be worth it if the rooms aren't too loud.

There can be a little more swaying the higher up but we LOVED being on Lido. Do Lido!

Well I can't change my reservation the offices aren't open and I bet they won't be open Monday either with it being a holiday and seeing how that's the only Lido balcony with a Pullman the odds of it being there on Tuesday are slim. Dang it. They really need to let you change reservations online :(

And no I don't have a PVP assigned I can email. Guess we'll just stay put.

What offices? Carnival is open all the time. Did you book through a TA?

Just called 1-800-227-6482 and pressed 4 I think for already having a cruise booked. A lady answered and I hung up. They are open!

I think they are having some kind of system issues today. Our cruise went off line for minute too and is now showing totally sold out of balconies on Lido, panorama and empress where there were 3-4 on each just a second a go with 1 Pullman on Lido and one on empress. Maybe a group just booked our cruise or a TA just pulled the rooms, either way I'm not getting the empress or the Lido room because all of them are gone now.

Did you actually speak to someone? Don't go by what you see online. Call them. They are there.

I called yes there are glitches galore today lol

Doesn't matter, all that matters is we got the room. Yay, so much for going cheap on this one. I don't know why I bother. I say the same thing going into every cruise and every cruise I do the same thing and upgrade our room. I should know better by now. I did have to pay an increase in my deposit since they are no longer have the $50 deposit sale. I had to pay the difference between what I paid before and their 1/2 off sale they have going on now so $104 to make the change.

Oh well after paying the extra on the deposit that only leaves me paying $176 more for the balcony on Lido than the OV on Riviera for the balance left.

Thanks for the help, haven't told the kids yet.

Yay!!!!! I'm so glad you got it! I wasn't even thinking about the additional deposit because you didn't mention the previous one was during a reduced deposit sale. It all works out in the end anyway. Makes it see a little more tolerable at final payment time. I'm so happy for you!

  • 1 year later...

Ahoy Mates & Maties! This group sounds like the perfect folks to ask a question regarding upgrading a cabin. A bit of history first if you don’t mind.

I was the happy receipient of a “free” Carnival cruise from our casino of choice. We all know that nothing casino related is free! Anyway, I was given an 8 night inside cabin and a friend was given a 14 day veranda cruise. (Tells you which one leaves more money at the casino!) We have chosen a seven day Carnival Magic Cruise for June. This will be my first Carnival Cruise, first anything besides a veranda cabin, and first time lower than deck 9. Lots of firsts going on!

Though I’ve often said I wanted to try the cost saving inside cabins I couldn’t bring myself to do it and have upgraded my cabin to an OV, still on deck 2 (2474), the very aft of the ship. (Believe there’s a dining room area above us. Hummmm...) We’re big fans of the aft cabin areas on Celebrity and were hoping for the same on Carnival. We have since googled the cabin and come up with some eye brow raisers regarding our cabin location that we’ve never experienced with the higher up cabins on Celebrity - noise and vibration.

Many mentioned the loud noises and extreme vibrations on docking mornings. The funniest being that you’re never late for an excursion since you’ll be up hours earlier than necessary! Now that made us raise both eyebrows. We immediately started looking to upgrade to a veranda elsewhere, and can, but there’s this part of me that wants to give this a real try. For seven days we think we can live through almost anything to include bed vibrations that didn’t require quarters. But there still a hesitancy.

The questions are... what would you do? Be adventurous and stay, particularly after spending money to upgrade to OV? Have experienced the area before and would never have booked the cabin? Would immediately spend whatever money to not have be the first one up on the ship? Have booked the cabin before and loved the early morning wake up so that you could see the sunrise and be the first at the buffet? Etc., etc.

We really are interested in hearing everyone’s ideas, opinions, perspectives, and words of wisdom. Always love the banter. Thanks in advance for any and all.

I love the aft cabins as you can see from my posts but it’s not just upon docking. It’s whenever the engines are running full tilt. I have stayed back there on all but 3 of my Carnival cruises since 2014 and yes it was every cruise. Some nights were quiet when we didn’t have a long way to go between ports.

If it were me I would stay. But if you need quiet or get motion sickness easy from vibration or side to side motion move. That’s about the extent of it :). Hope this helps a little.

Ahoy! Thank you for the info. We are also aft cruisers and love it. I do get motion sickness but ever since being introduced to Transderm there’s never been a problem. Knock on wood. We’ve just never been this low in a ship before. Technically that should make the motion aspect better so this is good. It’s the vibration thing. I can sleep through a nuclear attack... my partner not so much. Thanks again for the input.
