twscott1961 Posted October 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2005 We recently booked a taxi ,over the internet ,for a cruise before we arrived. It worked out nice, because they were waiting on us in baggage. They new how much luggage that we had ahead of time, and that there would be 2 couples. We would also like to visit a liquor store before boarding the ship. Does anyone have a taxi or car service website to past along for San Juan? Thanks
paulap70 Posted October 23, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2005 I'm not aware of any car service in San Juan, but liquor is cheap, especially in the duty free shop in the airport. I'm not sure about the "rules" regarding purchase for consumption while on the island, but you can bring whatever you can carry when you're returning to the mainland US. There's also a liquor shop at the cruise ship terminal at the Pan American Pier.
texancruzer Posted October 23, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 23, 2005 My Frommers Caribbean Ports of Call suggests you call " Tourist Transportation Division" 1-787-999-2100 for numbers to local taxi companies. or perhaps a web search will do the trick ? According to these threads you will have no problem getting a taxi at the airport :D and the fees are regulated.
Clubber Posted October 26, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2005 We have never had a problem getting a taxi at the airport or pier. They are lined up by the dozens.
MSN-Travelers Posted October 26, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 26, 2005 Ditto Clubber! Taxi service at the airport and cruise ship docks is a big operation. Both have a central dispatch deck/booth that will write down the destination, # of passengers, # of bags and a final price for the service. You know when you get in the taxi how much it will cost and it will be the correct size for your party & number of bags. A significant number of the taxis in SJ are vans so space is rarely a problem/issue. There is a well stocked duty free liquor store at the PanAm dock. If you are docked in OSJ, get yourself and stuff on the ship and then get off to shop at the local liquor store. No need to stop & shop enroute. Tropicislandluver Posted October 29, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2005 We just returned the 18th of this month from Old San Juan off a cruise. Taxi's are a dime-a-dozen there. As soon as we exited the terminal at the cruise port, taxi's were everywhere. We got one almost immediately. They have the regular cabs and then vans which we rode in. They take about 3 couples each. The morning we left for the airport, there were taxi's lined up outside of our hotel.
