which hotel

Recommended Posts

We have stayed at the Caribe Hilton, was very nice, then we stayed at the Radisson, was just ok. When we go in January we at the Marriott and have read good reviews.

You want to check on http://www.biddingfotravel.com for what rooms are going for on priceline right now. Priceline is by far the cheapest way to get a decent room in San Jaun.

You might want to check out the San Juan forum, there are some good suggestions. My daughter and I are staying at the Radisson 2 nights pre and El Carnario Lagoon 2 nights post Christmas cruise. Got one from Priceline, the other off the boards here. We have stayed at the Tres Palmas Inn one night, but it is good for one night only...it was clean, but not the best walking are for the two of us.

We are also one night pre-cruise in San Juan. I have done extensive research on hotels as well as prices and have found most good hotels to be VERY expensive. We are cruising in January and are staying at the Intercontinental, it's costing $269 per night.

I'm pretty picky about hotels, so I needed a respectable chain to be reasonably sure I am getting a good, clean, upscale property - I suppose I'm paying for it aren't I?

Take a look at www.tripadvisor.com go under San Juan hotels and they will all be there - take a peek at what others who have stayed there have to say.

Good Luck :)

We've stayed at the Wyndham OSJ twice (now the Sheraton OSJ), and enjoyed it, payed between $155-$185/night (in January). We've also stayed at the Radisson - didn't like it a bit, and it cost us $189/night, also in January. Last year we stayed at The Milano, $135/night, in January, and would have stayed there again this year, but we'll only be there one night pre-cruise, and they require 2 nights on a weekend during high season. This January we'll be at the Marriot Resort & Stella Solaris Casino, $170/night. I found all these rates on the hotels' websites.

Previous poster was correct when stating Puerto Rico hotels are pricey....

keeping that in mind check out www.elconvento.com It is Puerto Ricos only 5 star hotel and yes a little expensive but you get what you pay for.

What you get is a historic upscale hotel in the heart of old San Juan near the forts, shops, restaurants and the history. It was built in the 1650's as a Carmelite convent and has a history all in itself.

THEY HAVE A PRE/POST CRUISE INTERNET SPECIAL. SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN ON HOME PAGE AND THEN FOLLOW LINKS .. YOU MUST STAY 2 NIGHTS HOWEVER TO GET THIS RATE. ALSO IS CHEAPER DURING OFF SEASON so it depends on when you are going.

Whatever you choose, have a great time with your daughter.:)

I would also agree that El Convento is a perfect place to stay. I've stayed at the Caribe and really like it but El Convento has style that is truly unique. Or you can do what we are doing on our next cruise...2 nights pre-cruise at Caribe and 1 night post cruise at El Convento...that way you get the best of both worlds!

I just wanted to second the post on going to biddingfortravel.com and checking out what comes up on priceline. I do this for most pre and post cruise stays and have gotten many a good deal. $45.00 a night as opposed to $300. works for me. You have to go through a little work but its well worth it.

I also have been checking trip adviser for a hotel in Feb. Holiday Inn Express seems to be the most reasonable $$wise and it is near the Pan American pier where RCCL goes out of. If anyone has stayed there in the past please give a heads up about this hote.

I don't know when your cruise is but we just got the Marriott Resort and Casino in Feb 06 on Priceline for $100 a night. The website's lowest price for a prepaid room is $299, so we consider ourselves very lucky to get that price in peak season. Check out biddingfortravel.com and don't let Priceline scare you.Good luck. I'd rather have those extra dollars in my pocket.
