Princess Credit Card

Any tips for using and redeeming points on the Princess Credit card? I recently opened a Princess Credit Card account. 1 point for every dollar spent, 2 points for every Princess related expense.

I have had the card for years and love it. I put everything I can on the card and pay it off immediately.

I generally redeem in $500 increments. I have used for air fare, cruise discounts and OBC.

as an added bonus, seeing that ship every time I look at the card always makes me smile :)

What you saying is a little confusing. With our OBC I always use it up the first or second day with casino charges. My account is then at 0 dollars & anything such as gratuities, purchases, tours, drinks etc. charged during the cruise are billed against my CC at the end of the trip. (at 2 points per dollar).

We also charge our cruise with our travel agent using our card when booking the trip.

Sorry, I'm probably not stating this clearly I actually heard about this on these boards. When you take your reward as a cruise credit ( a refund of your cruise fare) you earn "extra" points because you pay for the cruise, earn 2 points for each dollar, then redeem the reward, getting a credit on your credit card. therefore you collect "points" for money that is being refunded to you, you don't give the points back. When you get your reward as OBC, your onboard account starts with a negative amount and your don't spend money or get points until you have cleared the negative balance. You don't get any extra cash, just extra points (which translates to extra cash later when redeemed) when you take your reward as cruise fare credit.

As others have said, this is not the best rewards card out there, but we have continued to use it for several years. We charge almost all our purchases to the card, but religiously pay it off in full every month. We enjoy watching the points accumulate and being able to at least pay in part for a cruise with the points we've collected.

The trick to this card is as you go higher up the rewards chart, it takes fewer additional points to reach the next rewards level. To get the biggest bang for your buck, you've got to patient and not use the points on smaller items. I keep thinking we should be looking for a card with a better return, but that won't be happening before I pay for our November 10-night on the Royal totally with points. I've had many opportunities to interact with Barclays over the years and, with one exception, have had excellent customer service.

How do I find the rewards chart & the points needed to reach the next rewards level?

We have it and use it almost exclusively for Princess Cruises and related purchases such as casino credit, on board gifts and final cabin statements. I have attempted to review all of the redemptions and it seems that the most beneficial is the 'Free Cruise' category. The redemption for Free Cruises comes out to 4% at its maximum level. That is assuming that you use the card exclusively for Princess purchases for the 2x points. The maximum under that category is listed as $7,500 for 375,000 points. Again if those points were doubled because of all Princess purchases that equals 4% per Princess dollar spent (unless my math is fuzzy).

The next best is the $500 Statement Credit or OBC for 40,000 points which equals 2.5 percent for every Princess dollar spent (again if all 40,000 points were all 2x points for Princess purchases).

The other categories that I checked, like gift cards, on board gifts, etc. all come out lower.

Hope that helps. And hope that it is correct.

Safe Journeys. Paul

Actually it doesn't work out the same. If you get OBC, the charges don't go on your credit card, earn 2 points each, then get refunded with the OBC. Where as with the cruise credit you have paid for the cruise, getting 2 points for each dollar then getting a $ amount credit on your bill as your reward, you are earning points and getting a refund for the dollars spent

We remove ALL obc ASAP after boarding and bill the maximum amount to our credit card. All tips, tours, drinks, purchases are billed at double points. I used to wait till the end of the cruise but they deduct tips each evening & you can't have it reversed & put on the card but if there is no outstanding OBC balance they have to bill it on the card each day.

It used to be available on the Barclays website but I could not find it. Also, thought I had a printed copy but can't seem to find that either. If you go into your online account as though you are going to claim a reward you can see what's available. Kind of a pain to do it that way. If I happen to run across my copy of the chart I will post later.

After a couple of google searches, I found the following:

10,000 points = $100 off

20,000 points = $200 off

40,000 points = $500 off

60,000 points = $750 off

As you can see, the lower tiers give you 1 cent value per point. The higher you go, the more bang for your buck. It goes up to 160,000 points which equals $2,000 off… that’s a 1.25% rebate

Free Cruises

200,000 points = free cruise up to $3,000

265,000 points = free cruise up to $4,000

375,000 points = free cruise up to $7,500

The 200k points gets you up to a 1.5% rebate. Keep in mind though, that’s on a cruise “up to” $3,000. So if the price was only $2,000 you would only be getting a 1% rebate.

At the top of the tier, the 375k points equals up to a 2% rebate. But again, keep in mind that if your cruise was only $5,000 you are only getting 1.33%.

I'm saving mine for the 60,000 point level. Maybe by next year :D:D
