Has anyone ever stayed at the Carter Hotel or Hotel Carter near Times Square in NY?

 

Is it safe and clean?

This Hotel gets pretty awful reviews on TripAdvisor.com

Appears very run down and not very clean etc., not the safest area if you are out at night, no bar or food.
