28SAC Posted July 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 16, 2016 Hi, We took the little open top bus and basically had a tour of the local graffiti, then up a hill to a viewing point then more graffiti strewn buildings ending up getting dropped off at the church to watch the moving characters on the clock tower while getting dive bombed by the sea gulls trying to eat our pastries from the outside terrace bar next door. As you may guess it was not one of our favourite stops. 28SAC

Nannyannie Posted July 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 20, 2016 We did a trip a few years ago to Taormina and Etna which included lunch and had a great day. Don't know if Thomsons still do this trip.
jenny wren Posted July 23, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 23, 2016 Hi Linda....Taormina is certainly the best place to go from Messina and best done on a ships trip as its not easy/possible to do using local transport. HOHO bus was waste of time and money we felt....if you stay in town make sure you are in the square by the cathedral bell tower at noon for the wonderful mechanical lion, cockerel, and other scenes with music .....very famous ! Rare Presto2 Posted July 23, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 23, 2016 On Celebrity we did a Taormina and Etna trip and it was amazing. We loved Taormina and took ourselves to the theatre which is a MUST do. We then walked around the town which is stunning. It is such a lovely place and one that will remain in your memories forever. We tend to do ships' tours on any cruise line.
