goodtrip Posted October 25, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2005 Years ago we ended a cruise with packaged transportation to an airport where there was nothing to do for 10 hours until our flight left! It was a holiday and there was no where to go. To make matters worse, the airline would not check our baggage in until 4 hours before the flight! This was a very unpleasant wait after an enjoyable cruise. Looking for advice once we depart the Tahitian Princess in the morning, with return flight not leaving until late in the evening. Please advise experience and suggestions for luggage storage during stopover. We are considering airport "transfers" on our own. Thanks!
chrysalis Posted October 25, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2005 you can always get a "day room" at a hotel.......and enjoy the facilities, and such, ...and keep your luggage there with you.
regnig Posted October 25, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2005 What port will you be disembarking? Princess does offer "day tours" in some of it's disembarkation cities designed for people with late flights. In some cases these are actual city/island tours and others simply take you to a hotel where you can use the facilities while awaiting your flight. The hotel holds your luggage in a secure area and there is transportation to the airport provided. Many will include lunch. Usually these can only be booked once onboard the ship. When we return to San Juan we alway use the latter one as it extends our vacation by a whole day. You might call Princess direct and see if the agent answering the phone knows anything. rxmurphy Posted October 25, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2005 Well, depending on availability, and what city you are in, you may want to consider taking an earlier flight home, you know, to get a head start on all that laundry.;)

Thank You The tour(s) we booked was one that Princess only allowed booking on about the third day of our cruise(s) and was primarily designed for folks with flights leaving San Juan after 200-300pm. I believe they do not allow advance booking - perhaps so they can verify your flight time. As part of the tour we were one of the first groups called to disembark and after gathering our luggage we were taken by bus/van over to the InterContinental Hotel in the ISLA VERDE area of San Juan. Our luggage was put in a secure area for us and we were given bag receipts. The area was staffed by a Princess land hostess. We could use all the facilities of the hotel, i.e. pool, casino, shops. There were two or three rooms set aside for the women and the same number for men to use for changing into/out of swim suits. There were plenty of towels available so showering was possible. A very good buffet lunch was provided. A board was posted showing, depending on your flight time, what time your shuttle would be leaving for the airport. We've done this same day tour at least 6 times as non-stop flight back to BWI are always around 600pm. One would think I'd remember the exact cost - but I don't really. I do though believe it runs about $30 dollars per person. We consider it a bargain as it covers transportation, secure luggage storage, lunch, and use of a beautiful pool, beach and hotel. AND, anything is better than the San Juan airport. BTB, they do also offer a sightseeing departure day tour of San Juan which I believe is pretty much just a bus trip. And, if I remember correctly, that can be combined with the lunch at the InterContinental.
