Parent questions. And first cruise tips with kids. Help needed!

Please ignore the above post. Some people think they know everything and can't resist being rude.

Yes you can leave them on the ship. This is a service the cruise line offers. If it was a major issue with parents being left behind they wouldn't offer this service. There is nothing wrong with doing this and some kids prefer camp over going into port.

Just ignore you. I am sick and tired of parents bringing their children on a cruise and just turning them lose on the ship.

I have seen them knock people down steps, push people out of elevators and trip people. Where are these parents. These are 7,8,9 and 10 year olds.

Parents need to take responsibility for their kids. If they want private time leave the kids at home.

Well thankfully you aren't in charge. And if a parent wants to leave their child with camp that's their choice not yours.

And please feel free to ignore me. I promise you won't hurt my feelings.

Wow. I started a war. Come on people. My children are well behaved. No way I'm letting them loose alone. If they do I'll punish them the old school method. I see your point about children. Everyone parents different. Thanks everyone.

I have well-behaved kids, too. Just go enjoy yourself. The kids will have a great time.

DS has been cruising since he was a toddler (now 13 1/2) and we have always taken him off ship with us. For us, we just would not feel comfortable with leaving him on the ship while we are in port or on an excursion without hm. Too many things can happen (medical, missing ship, him getting sick or hurt and they cant contact us quickly enough) and we would not have a good time.

Our son has experienced a lot of culture and has an appreciation for other countries that can only be gained by experiencing it up close and in person.

We took our then 12 month old son on his first cruise out of Jacksonville to Nassau. Ever since, he's been back there on two other cruises, and his younger sister has joined him on the last two. We've never felt like it was not safe to take them ashore. Just like visiting any port, take precautions, and stay in tourist friendly areas.

For reference, we did a semi submarine tour the first time, we took the water taxi to paradise island on the second cruise, and we booked a Balmoral Island beach day on the third. Absolutely no worries on any of them.

About Camp Carnival while in port: You can leave your kids there while you go ashore but do understand that they have limited and strict hours while the ship is in port so you may only have a few hours to play with. We thought about leaving our son at camp while we went ashore in Belize on a different cruise but the logistics with the times made it basically impossible. You should be able to have plenty of other opportunities to have adult time while the ship is at sea since camp carnival's times then are more generous.

My son is now 12 and has cruised many times. We have never left him onboard when we got off the ship. I would take them with me any time I leave the ship. If you want to give her alone time, I would suggest doing it during the day while on a sea day or even in the evening. You can take the kids to camp as early as 6pm and my son has stayed until 1am sometimes, giving us a lot of quiet adult time. He enjoyed camp so much and wanted to go as much as possible. After the first night he would eat dinner with the other kids and stay for the movies or party or whatever they were having. It is a charge after 10pm but well worth it. If you dont want to pay you can use a port day and just stay on the ship and there are activities for the kids. We had many nights alone watching a movie on deck or in the casino or adult shows.
