comfortcove Posted October 26, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2005 We are considering this sailing, but have a 13, 19 and 20 year old. They are all mannerly, but fun loving. Two will be home for Christmas break. Are any other families going, and will there be enough for them to do onboard? The ports look great. DH and I have cruised on Zaandam and Veendam and loved Hal, but will the younger crowd on a ten day at Christmas? We like that Norfolk is 40 minutes away, but really prefer a balcony and won't be doing that if we book 2 xmas cabins. Thanks for any input, Nancy
RuthC Posted October 26, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2005 You should expect fewer families on a 10-day cruise than you would find on a 7-day. This is usually the case, and Christmas vacation should be no different. The 13-year old may find few friends, too, as 12/17 might be a bit early for most schools to be out. The older kids can mix with the cruise staff and entertainers. Since you've been on the Veendam you already know how nice the Maasdam is. You already said you like the ports, and the embarkation port is convenient, so if you kids can enjoy each other ( ), or can make their own fun this could be a nice family cruise. jeffyd Posted October 27, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 27, 2005 We'll be on this ship and we have a 16, 13 and 9 year old. This is the 4th HAL cruise our kids have been on and they've loved every one of them. Always found plenty of activities and other kids to hang out with. We can't wait! arzz Posted October 27, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 27, 2005 Our 10 day last Christmas had many teens and children as the 10 days spanned across most school vacation periods. We will also be on this cruise, but we are empty nesting at the moment. We do not mind the kids on board. Have never had issued with kids on HAL and during the holidays on HAL there are usually still kids.
