Dream lanai smoking area question

Recommended Posts

Hi all- Leaving in a couple weeks on our first cruise on the Dream - but not our first Carnival cruise. We are in 6402, which I know overlooks the Lanai area, but am now reading that some people have had issues with the outdoor smoking area on that deck making its way into the deck 6 balconies. Despite searching, I can't find any detail on where on deck 5 that smoking area is - below our room? Somewhere else? My wife is very sensitive to smoke and I want to be sure that we don't have our balcony enjoyment compromised by that issue. Can anyone offer any guidance on their experiences- and where exactly on deck 5 smoking will be occurring?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The website states smoking is permitted in designated areas (didn't say exactly where) on the PORT side on Deck 5. Probably around the main doors leading from the central area near the casino. I think that is also the area of the sea day bbq which could send smoke up to the balconies. Check the ship's deck plans to see if that is under your room.

Looks like you are right above the smoking area on the Port side just outside Ocean Plaza. We also smelled the smoke while sitting to the left of the dance floor on Ocean Plaza every time the door to the smoking area opened. Hopefully with sea breezes it won't be bad.

We were in 8386 which is semi-near your room, just up a few floors. From our perspective we could see the hot tub to our right, and a few of the tables they have set up for smokers to sit and smoke. Some more were under the balconies so we couldn't see all of the times. As I said, just the ones overflowing towards the rails. On port days, even up a few floors from your room we could smell the smoke. At first I thought someone on either side of me was smoking on their balcony, or below or above me. I was finally able to track it down to the people sitting at the tables. That was actually shocking to me. I wouldn't have thought in an open air environment that would be the case, but when it's still air (ship not moving and no breeze) that was the case.

Thank you to everyone who shared their insight and experiences. Just to be safe, I contacted our travel agent and was able to snag the last double balcony room for my parents on the other side of the ship and up a few decks and a balcony for us up on 9 and far away from the smoke. The upgrade was only $200 for both rooms, so I am satisfied, but I really feel Carnival should be clearer about those rooms on the sixth deck above one of the few concentrated public smoking areas when booking. If I wasn't someone who spent time researching these boards, I would have never found out about it until we were on board and too late... Thanks again!

Glad you were able to get switched. Smoking is permitted port side, right outside Ocean Plaza. On Starboard, slightly further aft (ie. outside the art gallery), there is the Seaside BBQ, and I have watched the smoke drift right into the balconies. I think a move up was a great idea. Otherwise, people would be looking right into your balcony from Deck 5. Some people do not care, but I dislike it.
