Confused about OBC

I asked this yesterday on an older thread but no one responded...hoping someone can answer these questions for me.

We have 2 obc's from our TA. One is $100 and states cannot be used in casino or for gratuities. The other one is for $75 and does not state this and is refundable.

So, from what I understand, I can use the refundable $75 obc for our DSC...right?

Now here is the bigger question, after reading lots of statements made on CC, it looks like I can go to the casino and ask the cashier for $100 to use in the slots and they will charge 3% or $3. Can I do this with the nonrefundable obc even though it states cannot be used in the casino because there has been no one stating it can only be the refundable obc that you can use this way even though terms state cannot be used in casino.

Thanks for helping me understand this.

Yes this will work with nonrefundable OBC.

You don't need to play.

Do this:

1) Sit at slot machine

2) Charge $100 to your room via your keycard

3) Hit cash out button

4) Bring cash out ticket to cashier and collect $100 cash

You will find a $103 charge on your stateroom account, but $100 of that will be voided off through OBC, leaving the charge as only $3.

So you profited $97.

Enjoy!

(my emphasis)

OP, states it is from a travel agent, though I assume it is probably OBC that is part of the perks for group bookings that NCL gives - and I know some TA book as groups when they have the volume - but we can not assume on the amount of info given that it will work the same way as NCL non-refundable.

yes, NCL non-refundable can be taken out at the casino (or gambled away for that matter), OP states it is from the Travel agent.

I concede I do not know of any OBC one could purchase that would be limiting as such, so again I too assume it is NCL non-refundable OBC that is being passed on by the TA via either a promo or group booking perk; however, I feel it is in OP's best interest to confirm or deny the validity of the 'no casino' prior to attempting that scheme. If it is actually stipulated as OP stated, they would then be on the hook for the $103 in full and assuming no other charges, in essence throw away the OBC that was given to them.

However to add, if it is allowed for use in the casino, you could take that $100 cash then bring the cash to the pursers desk and ask to add $100 cash to your account.

You will then be on the hook for $3 but again, but you will knock off $97 from your DSC (again assuming no other account charges).

Actually, the $75 obc is for booking with a group through the TA and the $100 that states cannot be used for gratuities or in casino is the TA booking promo, if your cruise price was between $1000 and $2000 then you received a $100 obc.

I guess I wonder also how they would keep you from playing the slots with it?

I have never heard of a nonrefundable OBC that isn't available in the casino. They may just say that, without it actually being true.

As far as I know, there are only two types of OBC (refundable and nonrefundable), and both are usable in the casino.

Keep in mind that the OP isn't risking much to try it anyway. At worst, he will lose $3 out of the whole thing and still have his $100 OBC. Immediately after trying, he can go to the front desk and ask for a foilo printout.
