Shore excursions

Hi,

We are first time cruisers and have booked through Cruise118. We have booked our shore excursions through them as they were quite a bit cheaper than booking through Princess. My question is do you need to take your passport on the excursions in case of getting held up and missing the ship as my understanding is that if you book through Princess they will wait until you return but not if you choose an alternative agent.

Thanks

If you are late in returning to the ship on a private excursion and the ship leaves without you, your passport will be retrieved from your room and left with the port agent. That's my understanding, anyway.

I usually book through Princess personally. The peace of mind is worth the extra bit to me, but that's me. I've spent so much on the cruise, I don't want to miss what I've already paid for to save a bit on shore excursions.

You should check into how you'd get to your next port of call, so you know what to do if you miss the ship. Remember to make sure your watch is set to ship time, not local time sometimes, there is a difference.

Good luck.

Hi

Welcome to cruise critic,

depending where in the world you are travelling taking your passport off ship can be unsafe,

some places require you to carry id so driving licence is OK for this,

what you can do is photo copy your passport should you every get left behind

having a copy of your information just helps get you new documents,

as to your stuff the ship will often unload your stuff and give to port agent,

so if going ashore take copy of patter with you so you know who agent is,

if you know you are going to be a few minutes late call ship, agent port etc,

yours Shogun

Welcome to Cruise Critic, Surfer65...

As a point of information, mentioning your travel agent here is a no-no.

I recommend you join the Roll Call for your cruise. To locate the Roll Call for your cruise where you'll find others cruising with you, click here.

Select the cruise line, ship and month of embarkation.

If a Roll Call for your cruise exists, it will be listed along with others embarking that month. Click on View Discussion for your embarkation date to be brought to your Roll Call.
