Hotel Prices Rising - FLL

I just wanted to let everyone know that they should make their hotel reservations asap, as prices are rising even higher in December. I made a reservation for 12-2-05 at the Holiday Inn Express for $111 several weeks ago. I just checked current prices for this date, and they have gone up to $179! I guess the loss of some capacity with damage to the beachfront hotels is causing prices to bump up higher than they were. Just a heads up.

Many hotels now operate like the airlines do - The fewer available rooms, the higher the prices are - It pays to book WELL in a

dvance!

Need advice on hotel in Ft. Lauderdale area for two Senior ladies. Would like transfers airport/hotel/ship if possible. Hopefully under $150.

The SE 17th Street hotels are in the best area for cruisers without a car. They're closest to Port Everglades and FLL... SE 17th Street is also a very safe area with many many restaurants, shops, grocery, drug & liquor stores, as well as the very popular Water Taxi all within easy walking distance.

AmeriSuites is the only one with both free airport and port shuttles, but these hotels are less than 10 minutes from the airport and just outside the entrance to the port. Taxis to/from them would be quite inexpensive. The bottom 3 are the "budget" hotels, the top 3 are full-service hotels.

jerseygirl3 - AmeriSuites is in a far better/safer location. I would not stay in the neighborhood that HIX "air/seaport" is in - It's not a nice area, there's very little to walk to and it's not safe to be out there at night.

Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center" is in a much better/safer location, closer to the airport and MUCH closer to the port than the other one... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/fllcc

Extended Stay America is also another good choice for a budget hotel... http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fort-lauderdale-convention-center-marina.html

AmeriSuites is a "budget" hotel. Through Valuetrips or one of the hotel discounters it's usually always the least expensive in the SE 17th Street area. It's clean and fine for a night as long as you're not expecting a Ritz-Carlton.

My husband & I stayed at Extended Stay America on Friday, October 21. Hotel is on S.E. 17th Street Causeway in Fort Lauderdale. Room was clean and included a kitchen area, ironing board and iron. No hair dryer or bath amenities, but soap. Not a problem. I had brought my own.

Price was $71.03 tax included. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

It was located next to the Holiday Inn Express and across the street from an Einstein Bagels where we had breakfast the next morning. Great location and minutes from port.

But the best part was the surprise sighting the next morning. From room 222 (and I assume all the even-numbered rooms) our first view upon opening the curtains was the Caribbean Princess, our ship. That was a thrill.

Thank you so much, Trent, for your advice. Could not have worked out any better for us.

Okay, Trent, I'm really putting you on the spot here. Amerisuites for $109/night or Holiday Inn Express Convention Center for $130/night? It's for my sister and BIL and their 5-year-old twins. My sister won't expect the Ritz-Carlton, but she is a bit fussy. I believe the Holiday Inn provides free shuttle from airport to hotel, hotel to port. I'm not sure if Amerisuites does.

Between AmeriSuites and Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center" I'd go with Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center", or Extended Stay America as they're both a bit nicer than AmeriSuites. Nothing wrong with AmeriSuites, it's fine for a night - especially if you're on a tight budget, but it's a bit more "worn" than the other 2 budget hotels.

AmeriSuites has "free" airport and port shuttles.

Holiday Inn Express has "free" airport shuttles, but charges ($6 per person if I remember correctly) for the port shuttle - It's cheaper/easier to just grab a taxi as the hotel is only a block from the north entrance to the port.

Extended Stay America doesn't have shuttles.
