I'm sure that you will find at least two different now on hop off buses on the waterfront near where you dock and there are two different routes. It will give you the chance to see more of the island and hear some of the history. Get off in Mdina for an hour or so as it is a lovely ancient walled city.

Hello, was by chance having a quick look-see here, and thought that my post from 2009 might still be of help to you.

Please note that some things have changed (for the better) from 2009, like the new lift (elevator) that takes you up from outside the cruise terminal in the Valletta Water Front, up to Upper Barrakka Gardens. Only around 8 minutes walking distance, and if not mistaken costs only 2 euro. And please remember that some links in the above post might have expired (like Taxi info, for example) but others still count.

Plus other new things like a new sea ferry service to the Old 3 Cities, plus to the more modern town of Sliema on the other side of Valletta.

Malta is very small, but full of Historical sites to enjoy. Like for example the revamped Fort Saint Elmo in the tip of Valletta (built by the famous Knights of Saint John, 500 years ago). Valletta is very do able by walk, and has so much to offer.

Here's links to some live web cam views of the port (plus other places):

Enjoy!

I will be on Spendida in December stopping in Malta

What do you recommend to do. Two moms and their 30 year old daughters

Thank you

Sandi07054,

My husband and I just spent the last year living in Valletta. It's a beautiful city, with lots to see, especially if you like museums and history. Simply strolling the streets, or soaking up the sunshine in one of the lesser-visited gardens is also enjoyable.

I have a travel blog, and I just wrote an in-depth piece on what to see/do in Valletta: https://triciaannemitchell.com/2016/12/04/things-to-do-in-valletta-malta-attractions-hotels-guide/

Here's hoping you have a wonderful time in Valletta. The capital city sure has a lot to offer despite being a tiny one! We feel very lucky to have spent an entire year there.
