Five years ago we paid 65 euros for a van with 4 people to pick us up from the airport in Rome and take us to the apartment we rented in the Piazza Navona. Granted it was 5 years ago but 160 euros seems high to me.

Agreed. 160 is really high. Last month we paid 47 euro for a private car for 2 people from FCO to our central Rome hotel. From the port to the airport we paid 119 euro for a private car which met us at the port luggage area which is right past the gangway. It was very convenient.

we tendered in Gozo, Sorrento, Lipari and one other. I cant even remember. The only really rough one was Gozo.

Capri was the fourth port (due to a local law tender boats are operated from the island and not by WS).

Question about tenders - you mention they are precarious- could you elaborate?

Gozo was so rough that only one tender was able go to the harbour - our captain decided to go back to Malta to have a second chance to see the highlights of this beautiful island. The tender-passengers did their Gozo excursion and came back to the Breeze by ferry in the afternoon.

We used CivitavecchiaCabService for our transfer FCO-Civi. Excellent company with a small shuttle-bus. Cost: 69,-- Euros for the two of us togther. Two passengers of a Royal Caribbean Cruise joined us.

Also- finding it hard to arrange reasonably priced excursions on my own- what is your opinion of the Windstar excursions?

We did everything on our own (except the WS-included tour at Porto Empedocle) - as we like to do things indivudually.

Catania: Outstanding walking Etna Tour with Fabio: http://www.natoursicily.it/en/index.php

Malta: 2,5 hours tour of the three cities with http://www.rolling-geeks.com in the morning and a walk inside the old town in the afternoon

Trappani: Cable Car to Erice - great views from top of the hill!

Lipari: Two hours taxi-tour with http://www.liparitaxiantonio.com - Antonio was a great driver with basic english language skills but worth every Euro!

Capri: As we've been to Capri several times before, we wanted to escape from the crowded places of Capri and Anacapri. So we decided to take a very early local bus from the harbour to Anacapri and did a coastal walk to Faro lightower and went back by local bus. During our walk we met ONE single man!!! It was outstanding!
