Portland Tomorrow! 1.5 hour lighthouse tour at 11:30, suggestions for rest of day?

We can leave ship at 8 and need to be back by 5pm. Booked a lighthouse tour from 11:30-1, which I now realize is not giving us a lot of time on either end.

We'd like to get a feel for Portland...maybe not another tour. Can we just walk around? Should we hire a taxi at the dock?

Portland, Maine is quite walkable from the dock. Pick up a map of downtown or ask a local how to get to the "Old Port". Less than a 10 minute walk. Restored old buildings, cool shops etc, great for a couple hours walk around after your lighthouse tour. It's also known to be a city for "foodies", if that's of interest. I live in NH about an hour away. One of my favorite cities--enjoy!!

Yes, plenty of nearby options for lunch in the Old Port when you get back, plus shopping and sightseeing.

Eat lunch at Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street. Great food! Especially lobster.
