rye_guy81 Posted September 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2016 Hello, just wondering as this is our first time cruising NCL and been our honeymoon on the Gem, we are booked in a balcony cabin on the 11th floor but was wondering at check in, if there is the opportunity to pay for an upgrade to a mini suite or suite if room is available or am I best to call prior to the cruise? Upgrade at check in doesn't happen too often, but it's not unheard of. The mini suites do NOT include any of the full suite perks. You will simply get a cabin with a larger bathroom and tub on the Jewel class ships. The larger bath is nice. However, the tub is not for everyone. With a young child the build in panels on the tub make bathing more difficult. And, if anyone is short or has physical problems such as bad knees, back, etc. getting in and out the tub is difficult. Have a great cruise:)
SuiteCruiser Posted September 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2016 After you check in and are on the ship, go down to guest services and ask there. Often they will have a sign saying it's full so no upgrades, but you definitely need to be onboard first as the check in people are not NCL staff. Very unlikely to get an upgrade at the pier or on the ship. You're better off watching prices close to your sailing and if they drop you can call a few days out and see if they'll let you pay the difference to upgrade to a better room, or if they drop to or below what you paid, see if they'd be willing to upgrade you for free. They are sometimes willing to do this.
