goingagain Posted November 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2005 just figured i start a thread to see who likes what changes..ships/policies/ent/dining what ever.... what do you wish they had never changed as well......... I wish they could bring back the real lively bon voyage parties....I know save the whales ended the streamers :( { atleast the nonbio degradable ones} and with terror threats and all they cant just let anyone on a ship who hasn't been documented as so but they {cruislines can make it up by offering way bigger sail away parties....I mean they are ok now but i want a party that isn't just an hour of food then an hour of poolside music.:( ..i think people would spend more during there cuise and have a better time if they started out the cruise with a rush... i know i would :D
BlueHerons Posted November 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2005 Biscayne Bay shocked me by how brackish the water has become in the past 15 years. It used to be clear as the rest of the caribbean. I know you can do streamers and things made of fishfood.
tef43 Posted November 2, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 2, 2005 The most significant change for the worse has been the marketing of cruises as "family vacations." Back in the day, there would only be a handful of gutter snipes on board. Las Vegas tried the same approach a few years ago, and learned its lesson much quicker. Also, the general erosion of cruise traditions with the introduction of garbage such as "freestyle" and the overall ignoring of dress codes. Bring back the Good Old Days. It used to be clear as the rest of the caribbean.Brackish has absolutely nothing to do with the clarity of the water. Unfortunately the word is commonly misused. Brackish is defined as "somewhat salty" and it's correct usage would be to describe the water in an estuary.
Eliot Ness Posted November 2, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 2, 2005 I always enjoyed shooting skeet off the back of the ship...... doubt that we'll ever see that come back :( . On a positive note the addition of affordable balcony rooms are a plus. John

I live between a tidal creek (marsh) and the ocean. I meant brackish as in no longer clear, murky.:D

Something for everyone. I love it. Laura

ameliaw Posted November 3, 2005 #11 Share Posted November 3, 2005 tef, for once i agree with you. it's not the kids on board that bug me, it's the lack of parental supervision that doe's ( keeping in mind that my baby is now 20, i also have 2 -25 year olds, and also now 2 grandkids).we have taken those kids over the years on 8 cruises. i would be embarrassed ( if they were mine)on some of the things i see now with the kids on board.my dh & i always took turns watching them, heck we even took turns for the casino. i have been on 30 +cruises and the parents keep getting worse, not the kids. oh and by the way my 1st cruise was 1980 ,please bring it on back. fyi i also love vegas, especially downtown, and can't wait till they get get new orleans going full time again. my g-daughter (3) watches my puter every day and wants to go on a big ship with g-ma -i told she would have to be at least #

mojean Posted November 4, 2005 #14 Share Posted November 4, 2005 We had a heck of a Farewell on the Destiny in 2001 it was my first cruise and the Lido party was definitely longer than an hour and we had a good one leaving Aruba. I agree about the dinner dress code. You do have other options, its only for two hours max out of your whole day. You can change afterwards for the shows. Heck you're allowed to wear swimsuits all day long !!! And I also agree about the parents are getting worse !!! Yeah, its vacation, but what the heck happened to hometraining, e.g. manners?? I know the parents say well at least I know they're on the ship and not out driving somewhere, but the drinking possibilities are definitely there !!! To me its a start to something that goes back home with them, the curfew is in great danger. To top it off you DON'T know what they are doing out there at 2+ in the AM, how on earth can you be sleep?? !!! My TA was just telling me she was ready to kill her daughter when she didn't show up and she looked up and down the boat looking for her, she said she lost about 5 years off her age.:D It would be nice if the tips were added in with your booking price so that would be out of the way already.;)
goingagain Posted November 4, 2005 Author #15 Share Posted November 4, 2005 the tips are added automatically now....to your sign and sail car...but some seem to feel they got better service tippng afterward .. you can still have the tips removed from the card if you ask at the pursers desk...and tip manually at the end like past i was on the miracle this spring...you ll love it ...the pool is great with a wading beach around it. its like ankle deep water for about 8 feet around the pool with floating lounge chairs ... cruznon Posted November 5, 2005 #16 Share Posted November 5, 2005 Changes for the better....veranda cabins, more US home ports ... Changes not for the better...the erosion of traditions at sea (formal nights, quiet elegance...) ALL cruise lines trying to please everyone--there should be differences so you can find the cruise experience best for you.
goingagain Posted November 5, 2005 Author #17 Share Posted November 5, 2005 it seems to me there are lines that cater to or i should say offer a more luxurious, quit cruise....for example if you want a party time attitude and more lax dress codes than carnival or royal carribean is for you...if you want dressy, quit, luxary experiences than go from princess, radison, crystal cruises ,lines like those are more expensive but that weeds out the lower paying party guests...like myself...lol :D
tam-tam Posted November 8, 2005 #18 Share Posted November 8, 2005 Believe it or not, but I miss the bread crumb scooper that the assistant waiters used back in the early 90s.
katgar Posted November 9, 2005 #19 Share Posted November 9, 2005 How about being able to buy bottles of alcohol onboard, or in port, and freely bring it to your room to drink! Think of the smuggling it would cut down!
beaming90 Posted November 9, 2005 #20 Share Posted November 9, 2005 We didn't know anything about a sail away party of any kind on our first cruise and we were on the Lido deck for the muster drill just a few minutes before we began sailing. But we enjoyed standing on a quiet part of the deck and watching the ground get farther and farther away!!!! So I guess I wish they made a bigger deal of sailing away! cathyoo Posted November 9, 2005 #21 Share Posted November 9, 2005 Believe it or not, but I miss the bread crumb scooper that the assistant waiters used back in the early 90s. On our first cruise on the Majesty of the Seas our headwaiter had a bread crumb scooper. My DH absolutely loved it. Was very disappointed there was no bread crumb scooper on our second cruise (Carnival).

Complaining about this is like choosing to go to Bob Evans instead of Emeril's and then complaining about the family atmoshpere. What? Just choose a line other than Carnival & RCCL & Disney and you should be good. What I miss is the wait staff connecting with us with magic tricks and jokes instead of rushing around like mad trying to get everything done before they have to sing and dance. I think it takes away their dignity and makes us feel less pampered and cared about. What I love is the storage in the rooms. Very nice not living out of a suitcase. I also like the buffets for breakfast. I realize it's not nearly as classy but I just like yogurt so it is super convenient to just pop down for a yogurt and coffee in my swimwear. cathyoo Posted November 10, 2005 #23 Share Posted November 10, 2005 Back in the day, there would only be a handful of gutter snipes on board. Bring back the Good Old Days. Always amazes me when folks talk about how disrespectful children are while calling them "ankle biters" or "gutter snipes". Respect is a two way street. It is all our best interest that every child has a well rounded life. Like it or not they are the folks who will be running the country and emptying your bedpan. ;-)
