Is your complaint really that important now...

I was moved to tears reading this thread. How glad I am that I stumbled upon it. My daughter, Susie is 30 years old. We fell in love with her when she was 4 years old and placed with us as a foster child. It was a no brainer that we would adopt her when she became eligible for adoption a year later! How she has blessed our lives! Susie is profoundly retarded due to being born addicted to heroin with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Microcephaly. Due to her level of retardation she will never be able to cruise with us. She doesn't talk, is not toilet trained, does not sleep more than a couple hours at a time and can be severely self abusive. However, as so many of you have stated, she dosen't know she's different, and most of the time she is happy just doing her own thing. She loves workshop and laughs and claps her hands when the van arrives at her house. (Due to her need for 24 hour 1-to-1 care she now lives in a wonderful group home.) I am amazed and angered by people who seem to feel that just because someone's life expectations cannot include all the goals and accomplishments that society expects today that their life somehow has less meaning or worth. Her life is simple, uncluttered by the world. She loves to sit in the sunshine, listen to birds and to contemporary Christian music. She will come to God daily as a little child, walking close to him every day of her life.

Even though she doesn't cruise I think the sea is in her blood. When shopping with her at a mall near a naval base I noticed the many sailors walking by kept turning to look at us as we walked by ad whenever they did Susie would laugh. It turns out that as they passed by Susie was slapping them on the rear! icon_redface.gificon_eek.gificon_redface.gif She was very particular and only doing this to sailors!

Anyway, It's good to know that the people I am meeting on this thread have so much in common with me. You are good people. It makes the anticipacion for cruising all that more poignant.

"'And they brought young children to Him, that He should touch them: and His disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God' (Mark 10:13-14)
