Westerdam Air Conditioning options

jbobst's DW here...just a quick update. We went to Guest Services and requested a fan. Still...after no communication from our additional request, we politely asked to speak with a manager on duty. We were finally told they were holding off on the fan request because they were looking into a new cabin for us. An hour later we were offered another cabin on deck 5 that was blowing refreshing COLD air! What a relief!

So far so good. Thank you to all the advice and suggestions!

We were just on the Westerdam and had major Air Condition problems. We slept with the cabin doors open and fan running full blast. There were no extra room available and we made the best of our cruise. Slept with a thin sheet and the wetness from our bodies helped to cool us off. We were amazed at how many other passengers were suffering from Air problems. We love Holland America and other than the Air problem everything else was perfect. We also brought a clock with a temperature gauge and the room was between 78-80. We kept our window shade closed most of the time to keep heat from coming into the room.

What cabin were you in?

Which door do you mean your opened your cabin door: the one out to the hallway, or did you open the verandah door?

Again, always raising the problem when people open their verandah doors it dramatically changes the cabin temperature for everyone else on that same HACV circuit - which can include both ocean view and verandah cabins and cabins not even close or apparently on the same decks.

We were recently in the same Mexican Riviera area and points south on the Veendam and I kept a record everyday for both temperature and humidity. Average Veendam verandah cabin temperature was about 75 degrees as normal. Very hot outside.

Our cabin did get up to 81 degrees and I called the front desk and a technician came and opened up the system and did "something" to it and allowed the cabin temperature to drop back to the 73-77 "normal" range.

Funny thing was when it got cold outside we wanted the cabin to be heated to 75 degrees. Perception of temperature, along with humidity, is quite. subjective.
