We attended the Tattoo in August of this year. Everyone had to join the que as far as we could tell. Some packages that included dinner nearer to the castle might have different access. Our ship overnighted in Edinburgh and we chose to book a hotel. Very happy with our decision. Tendering can be a timely procedure depending on where the ship anchors. If you go to the Royal Tattoo website you can find the dinner packages offered. Also, if you join the society, you have early access to the tickets for purchase. It was a great evening and a must do. Purchase the best tickets you can afford to really enjoy the views!
