kokopelli-az Posted December 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2016 My husband has limited mobility and difficulty with (very many) steps. He uses a rollator or a cane. Our ship (Celebrity Summit) departs from San Juan PR and we were wanting to stay in Old San Juan for one night precruise. I have researched numerous hotels but most of them sound like they're not really very mobility friendly (either with stairs - even just to get to the front desk - or an elevator that works half the time). Has anyone with limited mobility stayed in Old San Juan and can recommend a hotel? We also would like a hotel that is very walkable (less than a block or so) to a couple of restaurants and a place for a cocktail. Does a hotel like this exist in Old San Juan? diane.in.ny Posted December 13, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2016 Have you checked out the Sheraton?
kokopelli-az Posted December 13, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted December 13, 2016 Have you checked out the Sheraton? Yes, that is definitely a consideration but I was not sure exactly how close and walkable restaurants/bars are from it. I was hoping for one of the older hotels (like Casa Blanca) but I think that's where the problem is about steps, etc. Any idea about the closeness of restaurants to the Sheraton (other than the Sheraton's own restaurants)? Just do a GOOGLE search using the key phrase restaurants in or near Sheraton Hotel San Juan and you'll find info for restaurants near Sheraton Old San Juan as well as the Sheraton Casino & Resort along with distance info. diane.in.ny Posted December 13, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 13, 2016 (edited) I think you will find restaurants nearby but it might mean uphill/downhill. I can give you a recommendation or two for restaurants but you'd have to take a taxi. That said, a taxi means no stairs or hills and a little bit of sightseeing east of Old San Juan. Editing here: Used Tripadvisor maps and the hotel is close to Senor Frogs but that is pricey because you are paying for the name. The restaurant in the Sheraton has decent Tripadvisor reviews. One block north is Mojito's where we ate and the food was very good. But it is a bit of an uphill walk. DisneyKidsDad Posted December 14, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 14, 2016 We stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan a few years ago. Our daughter is a full time wheelchair user and the hotel was accessible. No stairs going in and never a problem with the elevator. There are a few restaurants on the same street as the hotel. You will need to take a cab to the cruise terminal. The one by the hotel is for cruises stopping in San Juan. Your terminal is across the harbor. You can see it from the hotel. kokopelli-az Posted December 14, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted December 14, 2016 Thanks for all the comments on the Sheraton. It looks like that's the place in Old San Juan for the mobility-challenged.
kokopelli-az Posted December 18, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted December 18, 2016 In Old San Juan, has anyone stayed at either the Casa Blanca Hotel (316 Calle Fortaleza) or La Terraza (262 Calle Sol) who can comment on mobility-friendliness and restaurants/bars within a block or two of either of these hotels? (I know LaTerraza has rooms on the ground floor and both hotels have an elevator.)
