D8L - Denali

Years ago we toured Denali on a mid-day tour; terrible mistake. Over the course of 3-4 hours, we saw no wildlife. Later we were told you either go early or later in day and you'll see plenty of wildlife. While we were touring they were napping; what a waste.

When will you be in Denali? Look on the nps website for Denali to see what tour busses are available. If you go in May the TWT will not be running the full tour as the road may not be fully open. There are also camper bus tours available and much cheaper that cover the same route.

**Can you possibly change to an itinerary that gives you two nights in Denali and includes the TWT? You REALLY need two nights to make the trip worthwhile.

Even HAL cruisetours that include the TWT in May will be shorter than the regular tour.

Your HAL bus will take you to your hotel and you will be given your room key. If there is any delay for roadwork or whatever you may not arrive at 1:00. Is there a tour that leaves later that you could take?

  • 4 weeks later...
We will be there in mid May. Sounds like I should just use the shuttle service and try going later in the day.

You will probably be staying at the Chalets and there will be a shuttle to the Wilderness Access Center and the visitor's center. Be sure to check the schedule so that you don't miss the last shuttle back to the Chalets or that general area.
