Deluxe beach catamaran and snorkel

We're doing a 5 day to Cozumel/progreso in march, our 7 year old son is coming with us. We booked the deluxe catamaran/snorkel excursion through CCL but I just noticed there is an age limit on snorkelers? Does anyone know how strict they are on enforcing this rule? At that time it'll be less than 2 months to his 8th birthday, he's a great swimmer and is so excited to swim with the fish. I'm wondering what I should do.
