Carnival casino with gift card

My 18 year old has a Carnival gift card that his Aunts gave him for Christmas. We cruise this week coming up, and he really wanted to gamble on the ship. He plans to apply his gift card to his room. I told him that if he takes the money out at a table, he will pay a 3% charge, but at a machine he won't have a charge. So my real question, can he take money from a machine, and then play the tables?

go to guest services and get your money and take it to the casino. You can deposit it in a casino account and there is charge for withdrawal

When you get on the ship take the gift card to guest services and have it applied to his room account. Go to the casino and insert ship card into slot machine and hit the charge the room option and put in how much you want to charge the room(the amount of the gift card). Then cash out to ship card and take to the cashiers cage in the casino and tell them you want to cash out the winnings on the card. They will give you cash and then he can play tables. No 3% fee to cash out at the slot machine or cashier cage.
