Discovery - tables for 2, hairdryers, evening quiet bars

Recommended Posts

Hello, we are considering a Thomson Discovery cruise in caribbean, havnt been with Thomson before, so wondered if anyone could advise us. We usually eat around 8-8.30 how easy is it to get a table for two in main dining room? Are there any quiet bars for drinks of an evening, and is there an observatory type bar where you can see out. Are the hairdryers the bathroom wall funnel type or do you get proper hairdryers. Is it really difficult to get a sunbed later on in day. Are there any outside dining for breakfast/lunch. Sorry for list as of late we have cruised with Fred Olsen on Balmoral/Braemar and do tend to like the product, we just fancy a change. Thankyou

The observatory bar is bar 11 on deck 11. It is next to the two cover charge restaurants.

A quiet bar for the evening? IIRC all the bars were busy except the Glasshouse which is mostly a restaurant in the same area as the covered pool. This is air conditioned with not too loud piped music. You can sit in there and have a drink though.

If the weather is good you can use the Veranda at the stern of the ship, adults only and they have waiter service.

We have been on Balmoral but found TUI Discovery significantly better overall. The observation lounge on Balmoral is nicer than the Deck Eleven bar on Discovery however.

You may have to accept a pager if you want a table for two but the wait is not normally very long. The MDR is a lovely restaurant, very light and airy.

My wife says the hairdryers are proper ones.

There are lots of sunbeds in various areas. The ones around the main pool are always taken early.

We are also long standing Fred cruisers but are going back to Thomson for a more "fun" type of cruise. We cruised with Thomson about 6 years ago.

We leave for Carribean on the 15th.

Balmoral our favourite Fred ship so will let you know when we get back how they compare.
