jalakim Posted November 10, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2005 I was wondering if anyone could tell me the price of Gouda and where is the best place to get it? Thanks Kim
tarheelmjfan Posted November 27, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2005 We were just there last week & paid $22 for a large wheel. I can't remember the name of the shop we bought it in. If you're going to Aruba, it was cheaper there at one of the shops near the dock. We didn't get it, because we had heard Curacao was the place to buy it. Next time, we'll get it in Aruba instead. Pumbaamd Posted December 4, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2005 So, what's the story about bringing Gouda cheese back to the states? If it's Gouda encased in a wrapper, is it OK?
tarheelmjfan Posted December 4, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 4, 2005 We didn't have a problem at all. Ours was hanging on the outside of one of our suitcases. We also declared it as food, just in case they checked. They asked what we had. When we told them cheese, they said "fine".
2CoolCanucks Posted February 21, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2006 As long as it is a wheel customs doesn't seem to mind. We always declared it though under the dairy section of the I declare card. If you are inside Curacao a little further than just downtown, (ie. if you have a car rental) you can go to a grocery store (Mangusa= best price, Centrum or Vreugdenhil ) and get a whole wheel for about 25-30 ANG. Last year, I got one for 20 ANG. At the exchange rate of 175 this is a great deal! Ask locals for directions. Everybody knows where the grocery stores are.:) Just beware of the time of the month that you are there... most people get paid at the end of the month (once a month) and the stores are crazy busy at that time. Just a heads up.
