JSWalk Posted January 23, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 23, 2017 So glad to hear you had excellent food and service and that you enjoyed your cruise. We board the Caribbean Princess on Jan. 28th for the 14 day cruise. I am really in countdown mode now. Can't wait!
bec funky Posted January 24, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted January 24, 2017 Sorry I am just now getting back. I came home to a family emergency. Yes the pub lunch was free it was held in the Crown Grill I think on Friday. Hubby said they had great fried fish and the dessert was vanilla bread pudding which he said was fantastic. Of course he had to buy the beer! MUTS showed Concerts during the day Elton John, Paul McCartney, Opera, Pink, some kid movies like Dory and a few others. The evening MUTS movies shown we're Jack Reacher Tom Cruises new movie, The Magnificent Seven, Tarzan there we're others but we did not go. We loved the ABC Islands. On Curacao I used free Hilton Honors points to get a room for the day. They let us check in at 9 AM. It was beautiful. On Aruba we went to Renaissance Flamingo Island we both loved it. We walked to the Renaissance and for $99.00 we could go to the Island all day it included lunch and a drink. They only sold 30 passes that day so get to the hotel early. On Bonaire our Princess sub & snorkeling adventure was cancelled at the last minute. Everyone said how great the diving was. Thanks, Becky
bec funky Posted January 24, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted January 24, 2017 My only complaint was my bed it was old and uncomfortable. Some of the rooms have the newer beds but not ours. Princess is putting all new beds in during dry dock. It is my only complaint everything else was perfect! Make sure to order egg crates in advance or right when you get on board if you still have an old mattress. My room steward made sure he made it comfortable for me. So don't be afraid to ask. kcdancerkc Posted January 26, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 26, 2017 In march we booked an outside excursion for snorkeling. What did you do instead when your tour was canceled? That island is supposed to be primo for snorkeling....maybe we should have a plan B, for Bonaire 🇧🇶 Lol 😎 Hoping all beds are new by march....as we go the week before dry dock

bec funky Posted January 29, 2017 Author #15 Share Posted January 29, 2017 Yes we wish we would have had a back up plan for Bonaire. All the tours we're full so we did not get to do anything special since our Princess excursion was cancelled at the last minute. It was for mechanical reasons on the boat being used so not Princesses fault. The entertainment in the theatre was top notch. We really enjoyed all the shows. Very talented singers and dancers! bec funky Posted January 29, 2017 Author #16 Share Posted January 29, 2017 The pools we're chilly but comfortable once I made the plunge! Whirlpools we're nice and just right. Loved the free steam room in the ladies locker room. On Regal I always purchase the thermal suite. Not necessary on CB. The steam room was great. We are in a suite on an upcoming cruise on the Caribbean Princess and use of the steam room and thermal beds are included. If you were in a suite, I'd love to hear all about that experience and if it lives up to what they say.
RNGALNG Posted January 30, 2017 #18 Share Posted January 30, 2017 I too was on this cruise. I saw your submarine being towed away from port as we were docking! We took a private snorkel trip and it was the best snorkeling we've ever done! Highly recommend this port for this alone! My husband rode an elevator with the man in charge of the internet on this cruise and he said while in dry dock, they will be putting repeater in each stateroom! Amen to that! Our steward said that they already have engineers and folks onboard doing things as it all can't get done in 11 days. Yes, bedding will be changed out, new TV's the rooms will be wired for the new medallions, interactive screens put in all over. . . lots going on. We were also on the cruise before this one and the one after. The one after had problems with the Horizon Buffet. There was some sort of water issue with flooding, forcing them to turn off the air conditioning there and in the galleys. A very hot situation for all the cooks and staff working in those areas. She is really in need of this dry dock, but is still a very seaworthy vessel. We will be back onboard after all the changes and can't wait to see new look she has! Glad to here they're upgrading the NEW TV's ? for the Medallions & internet. I wonder if they'll be new TV's or just retrofit the old ones? It sounds like the ship really needs a face lift during dry dock. What did you notice that needed repairs?

We were on the CB the last two weeks as well as both TAs last year. I thought the ship was in good shape. Some time ago the casino was moved to Deck 7 and the Crown Grill, Future Cruises, Excursion desk relocated to Deck 6 where I believe the casino used to be. That area is all richly paneled and looks fantastic. I don't know if this work was done when they added the Intl Cafe, Wine Bar, and store on Deck 5 and Club Fusion on Deck 7 aft. We hadn't been on the ship since it was newish back in the early 2000's.

Only other things I noticed were just normal wear and tear. Nothing that a deep cleaning can't fix. She's still in good shape, I think! As far as the TVs, I don't know if it will be retrofits or all new ones. Oh, to have the movies on demand instead of the waiting to see the beginning the next go round. . . Loved how on the Royal that once you started a movie, you could pause it, go play bingo, and come back to where you left off.

Yest the movies on demand were a great item but WHY didn't that allow people to plug in their own devices is beyond me. It could have been a simple addition to add just 1 HDMI port to the side of the TV. :(
