Rotterdam Suites?

Does anyone know if there is any Suite that is any better (size, location, veranda) than anyother on the Rotterdam?

 

We are booking a Deluxe Veranda Suite for next Sept. and want to know if there are any advantages or secrets known. Like on the Star Princess E738 has the extra veranda space curving around the aft.

 

I have done a search and have not found any threads about the size or location and want to book the "best".

We've been in various "S" Suites on Rotterdam through the years and they are all identical. You would have to choose if you prefer being forward, mid-ship or aft in location. We prefer midship and being near the Neptune Lounge. The verandas are very large and very comfortable. We think these

suites are wonderful cabins.

 

Rotterdam Penthouse Suites as well. They are considerably larger and are true suites in that they are separate rooms (living room, dining room, bedroom). We enjoyed one of those on one cruise and it's fabulous!

I meant to add.....

 

Be aware there are handicap Suites on Rotterdam. If you do not require that, you should pay attention to which cabin numbers they are.

We are booking tomorrow and I am hoping for S7014, I would like nearer the center elevators but this is the only one shown farther back from the front.

I am selecting the Port side as cruising from Rotterdam to Athens and want on the land side (yes I know we are out at sea and can not see land)

We once sailed from Athens to Rotterdam. It was a terrific cruise....I think 13 days. It was the year of HAL's 125th Anniversary and the first time an HAL ship had returned to Rotterdam in many years. It was very exciting to be on that cruise. I recall they took the ship out of service for a day or two and ran all sorts of parties and shot of fireworks. We remained post cruise in Rotterdam visiting friends and they kept sharing the news that appeared in the newspapers and tv's about it. They said it was very exciting for them.Hope you have as good a time as we did.

FAVORITE SUITE --We just returned from 20 days on the Rotterdam (Oct.25)

and LOVED S7021!! It was just between the center elevators and the Neptune Lounge on Starboard side. Seemed very quiet all of the time and the cabin steward was outstanding (Ricardo). Some friends had 7022 on the Port Side and had kitchen noise from the Lido so BEWARE of that!!

 

We will be on the Amsterdam for our next trip next summer but the cabin numbers can't be compared because there are no A & B suites on the Amst. Navigation Deck so all distances are not the same as the Rotterdam. We generally have had no problems with noise but do check what is above your cabin!! Love the ship and know you will -- immaculate, smooth riding, just no complaints.

 

The best cruise director we have ever had -- Bruce Scudder. He will be on a few breaks in the future but will be coming back to the Rotterdam. Rob from Canada is the Internet Supervisor and will be on for 6 mo. and this was our 2nd trip with him. We use it quite a bit and he is great and so helpful. Bon Voyage.

 

This was about our 26th HAL cruise so have many to compare and in general feel they have not cut back on anything on the Rotterdam. Cruising Illini

We've been in 022 on various ships and it's great location IMO

 

We are almost always port. No particular reason but the only time we book Starboard is if there is no good location Suite available portside.

I just printed the deck plans for Lido and Navigation and it looks like both sides either 7022 or 7021 have the same thing above - part of the seating for buffet. Am I wrong??

 

I also want Port side, but agree I would take any side to get a suite if the ship was full. Right now though the Rotterdam looks pretty open.

Our friends on the Rotterdam had so much cleaning of dishes above them in 7022 that we loaned them our extra "white noise" machine and it saved the day. This was just 2 weeks ago and just on the Rotterdam but would probably be okay on some of the other ships of this size. As I mentioned in my reply -- the Amsterdam is quite different re. what is above certain cabins. We surely did enjoy our closeness to the Neptune. We enjoyed the starboard side and 7021 -- fun to see what is going on in port and that is often the side that is facing the port.

 

Generally any disembarkation in port takes place on A deck forward and of course all access to the dining room is from the rear so it is nice to be in the middle. The center elevators are very close to the casino and the new coffee/library/explorations cafe area and quite easy for accessing those. We both have bad knees so this is very important as we get older.

Well next October I will let you know about noise as I took 7024 next door to your friends noisy cabin. I am up early so hopefully I will out and about when they are clearing plates. I too have bad knees - partial knee replacement done without a lot of sucess. So I need to be near elevator and dining, we do not go to the shows very often so that being in the front of the ship is ok. Just find the bar closest and we will be there - on lido or casino.

One of our future cruises is again in (7)022 and I will pay close attention to see if we simply have not paid attention in the past and missed the dish noises.

I have also been in 7018 and other in the adjacent area and have never heard any noise.

 

The advantage of 7018 is that it is directly opposite the small pantry next to the Neptune Loung. Hot water for tea is always HOT! But I have never heard any noise from the stewards when they are working in there.

We were on the Rotterdam on their Panama Canal Cruise a couple of years ago and were in Suite 7022...it was very noisy most especially early morning and late at night it apparently is right under the dishwashing station of the Lida Restaurant. HAL gave us $500 Shipboard Credit and free bottles of wine but what bothered me was they said they had never had complaints before!!!!!!! Suite is very well laid out about 538 sq feet and the thing I liked most about it was the separate dressing area with large dressing table and ample closets...we are hevy packers and couldn't even fill the closet space, there was even one in the Hall complete with His and Hers umbrellas...they even had binoculars for us to use. The other perks if you like that sort of thing is invitations to all the Captains events including a Bon Voyage cocktail party in the Neptune Lounge and dinner and lunch with the Captain on other occasions, all invitations delivered daily to the Suite. The Neptune Lounge is also great, they arranged all excursions and dinner at the alternate

Restaurant which was small and hard to get in to. Only drawback was the wrap around couch was very uncomfortable, have seen that mentioned on other posts.

Don't remember which 'Dam ship we were on but we had an S suite about midship. Our suite was just fore of the Lido above. Everytime we went out on the veranda we were treated to a view of the underside of the rolling scaffold they use to clean the exterior of the Lido windows. That is where they had it tied down. In the great scheme of things this was a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless since we like to sit out on the veranda at night and star gaze.
