We will be cruising on the NCL Gem out of Manhattan terminal. We are considering taking the 6 hour full day tour the day before. We would be there on Oct 5 or 6. No idea where to stay. Was thinking maybe LA Quinta? And using Lyft or Uber from airport and to terminal and to tour? . Is tour good idea? Thoughts? Not even sure of airport but from what I've read, just choose best deal? Thanks

The La Quinta looks good for your dates. A 6 hour tour would be fine. Post back when you have airline options. Lyft or Uber is not recommended from NJ to NY.

I don't think they are able to pick up passengers from Newark airport yet?

What about New Jersey hotels? Would it be super expensive to get back and forth both days to make it not worth staying in Jersey? Hilton Inn at Ridgefield has reasonable rates. Thanks

First question - are you flying into Newark?

My suggestion would be to look at the Hilton Newark Penn Station which is about $153/night tax included if you join Hilton Honors. The hotel offers a free airport shuttle and free basic wifi as a HH member. Most important it has a skybridge connection to Newark Penn Station for access to NJ Transit ($5.25/pp to midtown New York Penn Station) and PATH ($2.75/pp to to downtown World Trade Center area. Actual train rides are 22-25 min.

If you stay in Newark, this could be an all day tour option for you with NJ pickup at the Hilton - http://www.newyorktoursnyc.com/pickup-locations.html#Newark.

Haven't

booked flight yet. Will fly into whichever airport is cheapest from Las Vegas. Thanks for the info. That may be a great option and will definitely check it out. What are options from there to cruise terminal? Thank you!

If you book the Hilton Penn Station, you should only fly into EWR. Options to cruise terminal would be riding to NY Penn Station on NJ Transit for $5.25/pp and taking a cab to the cruise terminal for $10-15 or taking a car service to Manhattan for $100+. If you book into JFK or LGA, post back about staying in Long Island City.

Please look at a map of the NY metro area and don't book your flights until you have a comprehensive plan for the cost of your hotel and transportation as well.
