NY Times: Regent Targeting Millennials

Recommended Posts

Beeped,

You will have a very relaxed and enjoyable voyage on Mariner. After the show there is musical entertainment, if not a small, secondary show, in the Horizon Lounge. Lots of opportunity for dancing. Especially nice was the dancing presence of some of the entertainment staff. Sometimes the Spontaneous Duo is in Stars during the time when there is a second show in the Horizon (e.g. 10:30-11:30) so more opportunity for dancing. One or more nights the pianist in the Mariner Lounge does Name That Tune..so lots of venues and we found that many of these were well attended.

Have a great cruise. Paula

When I was on Mariner this summer, I did a 5 mile run before breakfast and then very active excursions (a lot of hiking) and was still interested in dancing at 11pm at night. So it is hard to claim that everyone is going to sleep early and thus there is no need for lively late evening entertainment. Luckily, I was not alone and there were others who were just as interested. The music for dancing I thought could have been more contemporary, but was still fun none the less.

And I find energy attracts energy, so if you want to have fun and dance, others will be inspired too!

Don't worry and make your own fun!

As I have posted previously, there is a distinction between cruises and itineraries. Alaska cruises and other 7-10 night itineraries likely have the youngest demographic. Even though these itineraries are port intensive, it likely will not affect night life (which is why Regent probably utilizes the Mariner in Alaska - having the large Stars Lounge works as a child facility during the day and nightclub at night). Interestingly, Stars Lounge tends to be dead on many longer itineraries.

I also want to mention that people are not going to bed at 9:00 p.m. on any Regent cruise. Dinner doesn't even end until then and people head off to the show which ends around 10:30 p.m. If there is something of interest to attend after the show (like Liar's Club), it is well attended.

On the other hand, when you do a transatlantic cruise where the clocks go ahead (or back) almost every night, it also affects night life.

IMO, it is best to ask questions about your specific itinerary (and time of the year) get input from other CC members.

We love our late nights and some vibe I too get up relatively early even on port intensive days and I always have time to go to the gym or an early tour take a nap and recharge for the evening. On sea days we can close the joints. I think it depends on your physical stamina and I am not dead yet. You will always find some lively people on any cruise line.

Enjoy,

Enjoy,

You are absolutely correct. Everyone on board does not tour all day every day and that doesn't count sea days. A good band or DJ should be able to judge the crowd or pull in a crowd by playing music that gets the club going. Those that want to go to bed early are most certainly free to do so. Yes?

If you are on Mariner, you are in luck. Late night entertainment is provided by Kaisha and Boogie (the Spontaneous Duo), and they will get the place hopping every night.

Just want to make it clear that K&B do not only work on the Mariner. They are currently on the Explorer and likely move from ship to ship as do other entertainers.

Of course there will be passengers up beyond midnight but the majority of the passengers will not be (compared to non-luxury cruise lines). I guess it depends upon what people consider late. There are lots of folks up at 11:00 p.m. For some reason, although we go to bed after midnight at home every night, the activities ashore, the sea air and movement of the ship make lying in bed very comforting.

Basically, luxury cruise lines are quiet and sedate. The most exciting happening on Regent cruises is baggo, trivia, bingo and similar activities (which I suppose is exciting for some people). The most exciting thing on some Regent cruises (those with a lot of sea days) is the Country Fair. IMO, you can't really compare the nightlife or even the daytime activities on mainstream and premium cruise lines with luxury cruise lines. Non-luxury ships are much more lively and active and can be a bit noisy and crazy. Fortunately there is a cruise line for all of us. We've done the fun, crazy stuff for years and now enjoy the peacefulness of luxury cruising, where sitting on the balcony with a drink and a good book is heavenly!

Not to worry not everyone is a slam clicker at 11:00PM. How would anyone know what happens after midnight when you are in your suite sleeping.

Our current favorite luxury line has at least fifty activities during sea days and plenty of late entertainment every night including port nights and they are the same demographics as Regent. Yes, even the small disco gets busy with people of all ages and the Casino is always busy after 10 PM. Casino is closed while in port but the other venues are open until late.

You decide for yourself when you go. You are hearing one persons opinion not true observations.

If a luxury cruise line were to market their cruise line to potential customers quoting that we offer baggo bingo and trivia as "exciting participation events" I hardly think it would appeal to many?

We have devoted Regent friends that tell me they have had many fun nights on port intensive cruises.

Bingo I don't think would sell any cruise. If you are not there how would one know?

I do not disagree that there are a few people that do late nights on Regent.

Do agree that people that are not actually on a Regent ship would not know about Bingo or other activities available on the ship! My comments are based on observations. There are many people that play Bingo and even more that do Trivia. Obviously things may differ on other cruise lines.

P.S. My late night comments are based on our observations!

TC2,

We just disembarked Mariner on April 8th and the

Spontaneous Duo were on board for this cruise. When

Did they move to Explorer?

While I enjoyed the various musical offerings, I found myself wondering how some younger folks would find the music as many tend to dance not holding each other.

This could be a case of mistaken identity. There was a fabulous duo that was on the Explorer last week - I did not know their name. Someone posted somewhere that the group was Kaisha and Boogie and I believed them and shared the information. I apologize if I passed on incorrect information.
