Disembarkation on the Breakaway seemed better

Recommended Posts

Off the BA yesterday. Did self-assist. Left cabin around 7:45, headed aft. Seemed like they had more ropes set up, and also had moved a lot of the furniture in the casino to keep the lines orderly. I also noticed more staff present directing people and doing crowd control. I was off the ship and through customs in probably 15 minutes total.

Did the self-assist too -- it was super easy. Everything said that we could leave ~ 8:15. We were in line ~ 7:30 (were in the casino area you were referring to). Lines started moving ~ 7:40 and we were in our car and driving by 7:50. I've never seen it that easy before.

Between that and hitting 4 of a kind in 'let it ride' at 11:30 the night before -- great ending to the cruise! ;)

We also got off he breakaway yesterday - at around 9am an announcement was made stating that disembarkation was temporarily suspended because of congestion in the terminal.

We were fortunate enough to have priority disembarkation so were able to walk right off and only waited about 15 mins in the customs lineup but the general disembarkation line looked very very long.

I'm thinking that others who left later in the morning had different experiences but honestly a small price to pay for a lovely week of relaxation! You just have to plan if you have a flight to catch.

I guess the saying that the "early bird gets the worm" applied here. Good for you guys.

What exact time does the Breakaway gets to NY? It says 8 AM does it get in before that? We need to get to Penn Station by 10:30 AM would that be enough time? Thanks.

The ship docks around 7/730ish, however it takes time for clearance, customs, etc. Debark starts around 8

The cruise I was on a few weeks ago arrived early into NYC and self-assist started at 7:30am. Much earlier than the earlier posted time of 8:15am.

We left our mid-ship room at 7:45 and used the forward staircase to deck 7, looped around the casino and were off the ship heading towards customs. The lines for customs moved quickly but we had our custom form filled out and passports at the ready. Total time was 25 minutes, start to finish.

You could make your train if the everything goes smoothly and you can find a cab.

We were docked at the Pier by 6:15am on this past Sunday. We did Easy Walk Off and was through Customs, grabbed a taxi and was at Penn Station by 8:45am. Totally doable for your 10:30 time frame.

We learned our lesson on this cruise should have done the self debark. we were supposed to be off at 9 or 9:15. The lines only opened up at about 10 and it took is about 1.5 hours to finish getting off. Tough to blame Norwegian thou as there are 17 custom stations but only 6 were manned .

Ok. Thanks everyone for the great info. I think we'll do the easy off around 8:15ish and should be at Penn station for the 10:30 ride back to DC. Any gold lat. member here? If so, do you get priority boarding or debark? We are gold member and booked a mini suite mid ship deck 12 for less than $ 1500 for 2 people. This was an upgrade from the free inside casino comp.

They don't want you to relax and they want you to off the ship ASAP so they can get ready for the next cruise. This is our 35th cruise and 10th with NCL and I recall last time they were in our room cleaning while we were having breakfast @ 7 AM on debark day. When we came back from breakfast the bed was made and it seemed they don't want you in there at all.

I tried to wait to be the last off the ship, but they were asking everyone to please disembark by 10 am, then we got to stand around in LONG lines in the freezing cold. Then inside to wait in line for luggage, then customs, also both long lines.

On other ships, I have waited until last call then strolled off with no lines. NYC pier was a mad house!
