Interior Cabins under the Casino on Nieuw Amsterdam

Recommended Posts

Anybody have experience with staying in the interior cabins directly beneath the casino or the casino bar on the Nieuw Amsterdam? We're pretty light sleepers and want to make sure we're not going to hear the sounds of the casino games while we're trying to sleep. The reviews on the "J" categories seem very good on the main deck (directly below the casino) but we're traveling with our 9-year old son.

We have a couple dozen cruises under our belt, including one on the Nieuw Amsterdam, but we've never booked one under the casino before. Don't know how insulated this ship is compared to others.

Any advice you all could provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Would like to know too.. I have 1043 currently, but all rooms FWD of it are available for my sailing in 25 days. I really want to avoid noise :).

I've been in 1043 on one ship or another (and many of the others along in there), and had no problem with noise.

I've found the cabins more toward mid-ship, on starboard side, are quiet. Anything aft of the fire door on that passageway is quiet.

We were under the casino on Veendam. Worse yet right under the Wheel of Fortune machine. Every night until 2am or so when they turned it off... "WHEEEEEEEL OOOOOOOFFFF FOOOOOORRRTUUUUUNNNNNEEEE" every few minutes even when not being played. Maybe being newer NA would have better noise control.

NA casino looked sedate, as well as heavily carpeted. No bells, whistles or crowd foot stomping. Assume this would not be a bad deck activity to be under at all.

If one encountered a problem like reported on the older Veendam, not designed perhaps upfront to include a casino, I would hope the front desk would attend to any late night noise levels. Amazing to learn in fact anything is going on a 2am on any HAL ship. Was the crew having an unauthorized play day?

That was the extra frustrating part - nobody was playing the machine - it was just the promo ("come play") sound that repeated every few minutes to attract people to the machine. Casino was dead but they kept the machine on until closing time which seemed to be about 2am. Optimists I guess.

Did the front desk not respond to this?

We have stayed in 1018/1024 a few times on the NA, mostly recently in January. I am a very light sleeper and we never have heard a noise from the casino. Definitely be sure you are not under BB King, you will "enjoy" three sets of them every night as if they were in your cabin. Not cool when traveling with little ones!

Which ship had this problem ... hopefully, they have designed around this sound penetration problem on the newer HAL ships.
