DJW8385 Posted March 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2017 (edited) Hello, My family and I will be staying in Port Canaveral for two days prior our cruise in August. What are some recommendations on hotels (budget/value priced) in Orlando and PC? Also, will it be a great idea to stay in Orlando and take a shuttle to Port Canaveral? Lastly, do most hotels in PC/Orlando offer shuttle service to the cruise port? Thanks in advance! SteerageJoe Posted March 12, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2017 This is a tough one because Orlando and the Canaveral area are two different worlds! You know how popular Orlando is for good reason, while the coast is rather "sleepy" in comparison. Here at the Cape we generally focus more on the simpler (and cheaper) things in life - happy hours, walking on the beach, fishing, biking the side walks, water sports, hiking, and so on! So it depends on the interests of your family. You can easily stay in either area and leisurely make your way to the ship on cruise day.
loanshark Posted March 12, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2017 If you are trying to keep your budget as low as possible, you will find rooms much cheaper in Orlando. However, depending on how many people are in your group, the cost of the shuttle from Orlando will probable offset any savings. In many cases, it's cheaper to do a one-way car rental from Orlando to Port Canaveral than to do a shuttle. In addition all of the major car rental companies will shuttle you to the ship from their Port Canaveral offices.
JohninDC Posted March 12, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2017 It is a 50+ minute drive from MCO to the port - slightly longer for most of the hotels that are close to the parks and International drive. Any hotel offering a "free" shuttle is just building the cost into the package rate. As suggested above, renting a car one-way is easy and popular and probably cost effective unless you are solo. Drop the car off at the agency in PC/Cocoa beach the morning of y our cruise and ride their shuttle to the port.
