RCCL New Selling approach

No. Quite the contrary. Disney don't allow you to bring liquor onboard, and they do not offer beverage packages (beyond a wine package that you only redeem at your Dinner). However, there are plenty of full-service bars and beverage options onboard. Each ship even has 3-5 Adult only bar venues onboard.

They are however, Casino-free.

DCL does allow you to bring on 2 bottles of wine at each port, but they no longer allow you to ring as much alcohol that you can carry like they used to. That is more flexible than most lines because you are not just limited to bringing on wine at embarkation.

2 wines at each port would be a nice arrangement on a Med cruise

So even with the exorbitant price on a Disney cruise they are busy on board selling and selling anyway.

The very first live show on the first night of sailing is all about getting you to buy into the spa and their specialty dining. The last live show is a reminder that you need to rebook and get back fast. The two shows are simply sales pitches, DCL commercials. People think they are watching a broadway equivalent show while they are really putting their hands in your wallet. All because you were lucky enough to pay their exorbitant prices.

I'll do RCL sales pitches any day. At least they are upfront about it.

Off the Grandeur yesterday. People in our group agreed we were approached more than a few times each for specialty restaurants, especially in the solarium, windjammer and walking around the ship on almost every day our of 9 day cruise but we said no and they moved on. No pressure from the spa - I actually visited twice. During my first visit I wrote "No sales pitch please. :)" on my form and I didn't hear a single word about a product.

That being said, the sales pitches in the MDR were a bit much for my liking. Our head waiter walked around with the surf and turf options for each evening in his hand (that were already on the tables) and sold table by table. Then one night they actually set up a mini bar at the front of the dining room and came over the speakers and someone started mixing and selling drinks.

That was the tipping point for us. When we come together as a group for dinner we would like to have a conversation to catch up on each other's day. Not 10 minutes into sitting down we are not only being sold to but there was no way to say no! When the head waiter came by with that day's "deal" we let him know our displeasure with being sold to during our dinner. He told us this was the first cruise the drink show happened so I'll be interested to see if anyone else sees it and comments here on the boards.

We understand that these people are just doing what their bosses tell them to do but it is definitely annoying and sticks out as the negative part of my cruise. This won't stop me from going on RCL again and I'm thankful that I will have time to give a thorough review on the positive and negative aspects of the trip on my survey.

I think the drink show sounds fun. Much better than Oh Solo Mio or the conga line. But that's just me.

I probably should have put the word show in parentheses. ;) He mixed a martini and the show consisted of telling us what were the ingredients and that it's only $2...with the drink package. Perhaps if he did a few bar tricks while making it or just making it without talking I would have liked it more. At the very least here's hoping it at least gets better...
