RegBarclay Posted March 27, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2017 $50 table is 8 deck shoe with S17, for 6 deck you need to play $100 From what I remember there is no Spanish 21 Not sure about VP pay tables anymore, but will need to play $5 and up for best available pay tables (which still suck) Gesendet von iPhone mit Tapatalk

I remember my friend showing me an 8/5 on the gem few years ago. I can only dream of seeing 9/6 on a cruise!. Just happy to get my live poker table! caddykid12 Posted March 28, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted March 28, 2017 They do have live poker cash game... right?
Mike_DeA Posted March 28, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 28, 2017 They do have live poker, $2/5 no limit cash games (buy-ins of $100-$500 if I recall correctly) and several tournaments, typically on sea days. The cash game has a very high rake.. 10% up to $25, which almost make it unplayable. Last year on the Jade we had four regular players, with a few other folks playing for short stints, never more than 6-7 players at one time. The regular tournaments are $80 buy-in with rebuys and add-ons. Tournaments on the Jade had close to 20 players, with many folks rebuying when knocked out. Problem is you start with only 2,000 in chips (I think), and levels are 20 minutes, so you need to chip up relatively quickly. They also offer another tournament with the winner getting entry into NCL's annual Poker Challenge, with prizes totaling $350,000 I believe, held in December on the Epic. The buy-in for this one is in the $250 range.

I've never heard of a ship having anything but 1/2. 2/5 is better but the 1/2 brings in easy tourist money! That's surprising. Really. But yes. I know rakes can be insane! Or will they ever hold a 1/2 if they see 2/5 ain't drawing a crowd? How bout WPT unltimate texas hokd em table game? Is 1 on the BA?
Mike_DeA Posted March 28, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 28, 2017 I believe NCL only runs $2/5 games across their fleet. They wouldn't change to $1/2 when asked last year on the Jade. Probably corporate policy that they cannot mess with onboard a particular ship. Not sure about the Ultimate Texas Holdem on the BA, but I think there is a good chance that they will have it. It has good casino odds. I know Princess has it on their fleet, as does Carnival (same parent company).

skeeter195 Posted March 31, 2017 #15 Share Posted March 31, 2017 On the Breakaway in September it was a 5 coin max. The coins though went from $.25-25.00. Only a 5.00 max though on the Gem 3 weeks ago. The live poker tournaments are: -$100 buy-in with $100 re-buys and a $100 add-on for the first day Satellite where the winner gets the free cruise and buy-in to the main event Dec tournament on the Epic if there are 27 buy-ins. Also the winner gets all of the extra cash after the 27 buy-ins. -The other daily tournaments are $80 buy-in with $80 re-buys and add-on - There may also be a sit-and-go(10 people) satellite one day with a $270 buy-in with no re-buys or add-ons. Winner gets the Dec cruise and buy-in.
Mike_DeA Posted March 31, 2017 #16 Share Posted March 31, 2017 On my cruise last April, there were not enough entries to hit the 27 mark in the $100 tournament to qualify for the December main event trip. Also there were not enough entrants in the main event SnG to get started. I likely can't attend the December Epic main event this December, so I won't be playing in those events on the Breakaway next month. I will try my luck in the $80 tournaments though, as the competition was very soft last year. I was bubble boy in one and bubble boy+1 in the two that I played. Some bad players (lucky ones) ended up winning each tourny.
skeeter195 Posted March 31, 2017 #17 Share Posted March 31, 2017 I normally do not play the cruise one either but I did this month on the Gem. We did not hit the 27, we only got 23. It was not that bad though as it was winner take all and I won. I won the next one the next day also but that one paid 1st, 2nd and 3rd so the first place was not nearly as much. Like others have said the tournament rake is bad and the blinds and starting stacks are horrible but if you play well you will make some money. I had a great shot at winning the 3rd one but lost a 5 way all in(when it was down to 7) when my flopped full house lost to quads and losing most of my stack. If I win the hand I would have had 80% of the chips on the table 3 handed. I did manage to hold on for 3rd though.
Mike_DeA Posted March 31, 2017 #18 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Congrats. You really cleaned up. Sounds like it takes a one outer to beat you. Remind me not to play with you on the high seas. Did you play the cash game onboard? How was the action?
caddykid12 Posted March 31, 2017 Author #19 Share Posted March 31, 2017 23 people and its winner take all. Hahaha that's a shame. Glad to hear you won but holy crap. Horrible structure
skeeter195 Posted March 31, 2017 #20 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Honestly the stacks were never really big enough for me to play the cash games. All of the bigger stacks except 1 were pretty good players. Also it would have been tough to overcome the rake. I probably could have made money though but I did not want to put in the hours on this cruise, we had a big group with us and we were always doing something fun. The tournaments are bad enough with the rake but so easy.

I've never encountered this in tourney play, of course the live action has an almost sinister rake to it.
Mike_DeA Posted July 18, 2017 #23 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Sorry to drag this old post up, but are you really saying they are taking a rake out of the TOURNAMENT pots? I've never encountered this in tourney play, of course the live action has an almost sinister rake to it. Not out of the pots, just out of the buy-ins just like land based casinos. So the $100 tournament is really $75 to the prize pool, $25 to the house. The $80 tourney is $60+20. Some folks think this 25% cut is too high. I'm fine with it myself. They're in business to make money. Is it a little higher than other low-dollar land based tourneys.. yes. But I've seen plenty of $80+20 or $60+15 games on land. I have more of an issue with the cash game rake of 10% up to $25 per pot. And the fact that all pots are raked, so BB/SB chops are effectively not allowed since they take a minimum rake of $1.
