SFO Peter Posted April 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2017 HAL is currently putting people on disembark/embark wait list for private overland excursions from Maputo with no guarantees??? Has anyone heard of such a thing before? Something to do about quota for disembark/embark Mozambique/South Africa. This is WC 2018. HAL does not appear to have overland excursions from Maputo. I got HAL permission in writing earlier but there are other members travelling with us on safari who do not have permission to disembark/embark. I wonder if one gets future date visa for Mozambique if HAL would then give permission to disembark/embark. What are the ramifications/fines if one just gets off the ship using self obtained visa and try to get back on in Cape Town? Ideas or comments anyone? Old As Dirt Mom Posted April 7, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2017 I'm guessing it's about dealing with the Mozambique government, but guessing is all I have to offer you. I helped with missionary work in Mozambique some twenty years ago. At that time the country was just recently emerging from several years of civil war, and the government placed many restrictions upon our group, how we traveled, and where we went. I'm sure things are better now than they were, but I would say that HAL may be concerned for passengers' safety and well-being, as well as constrained by local laws and limited infrastructure. Just my two cents.
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 7, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2017 I have to agree. A lot depends on what the government regulations are. And you can be certain that HAL is concerned about all their passengers and where they are going when they decide to stay off the ship for more than a few hours. Overnight excursions not done by HAL are a big concern.
