AZ cruise getaways Posted April 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2017 We've never been to Costa Maya before, and will be arriving on the Norwegian Escape. What are the absolute must do shore excursions in Costa Maya? Are there some that are better found at the pier or on shore rather than on the ship? What are the names of the companies, if there are some good suppliers for shore excursions there? Thank you.
Rare crewsweeper Posted April 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2017 for the most part at this port, you don't need a shore excursion. It's a beach port where you take a tram from inside or a taxi from outside the port complex to the small village of Mahahual and go to the malecon, walk along the malecon and find a spot or beach club that suits you and park it. Now that said there are some options available via private vendors: You can book an All Inclusive beach package, directly with a couple of resorts south of the malecon---Maya Chan or Almaplena. Both have web sites. You can also book an AI package for places along the malecon via Island Marketing for NoHoch Kay or via websites for Pez Quadro and YaYa Beach. Or you can reserve a lounger at Tropicante. All these places are on the web and there are pictures available in the beach club sticky thread above these posts. If by chance a beach doesn't appeal to but Maya Ruins might, then there is a company called The Native Choice that has a variety of excursions to Maya ruins in the area. you meet up at their building which is a short walk outside the cruise port. Otherwise the ATV, snorkeling, type excursions are all ship sponsored and you meet at a location on the pier near the entrance to the port shopping area.
