Price Drop - When is it worth it?

It's interesting...literally every price drop for my upcoming cruise would result in 1) loss of OBC (which was OK if the drop made up for it and/or 2) loss of cabin and 3) entire cruise must be paid for immediately.

 

The itinerary was more important than the exact cabin to me, ended up going with the best drop I had seen yet ($100+) a few months back (which resulted in all 3 of the above). It ended up being a smart move, as my cruise is in a month and a half and no other price drop has come close.

If it goes down 5 bucks im filling out the forms and submitting them, takes 2 minutes and im done.

I check for,price drops daily and submit for any amount because to me every penny counts. I've gotten $330 back on my room and $180 on my mom's for our July cruise.

Thanks for the reminder. Just checked with fareviewer and found a $400 drop (for five travelers) since booking. Here's hoping that the form I filled out works properly and quickly! That's all of our prepaid tips right there.

I would probably do a price drop for $1.00 (lol) as I sail solo and have to pay double for a cabin. I originally booked ES and then found a casino rate for $100 cheaper which caused me to lose my $50 OBC that Carnival was giving me. That was ok as I have $100 in stock OBC so I am happy. I did see that on deck 8 there was an inside cabin that was $20 cheaper so I called my TA who moved me up one deck (better location) and I got the price drop. Still keeping my fingers crossed that there will be more price drops before 9/24 but right now I am sailing solo for under $1000 so I am happy.

Quite possible that Cabin type is sold out for that sailing

thanks, I thought that might be it. Still almost a year away and heard on our roll call that the cruise was nearly sold out.

 

But dang, I still woulda liked to see what cabins were going for now lol - We got in almost the day it was announced and I wonder how much it's gone up...I just tried all the other room categories and interior is all that's left (or all that got results on fare viewer anyway) - not a whole lot less than we paid for balcony - guess it's a good thing we got in when we did!

Its nice when prices drop and you get that money back and then its even better when you see less desirable rooms go for more than what you paid.

Every little bit helps! I had hundreds of dollars in OBC for one cruise, and most were small, $20 or so, price drops. They add up sometimes!

Looking at fare viewer takes only a few minutes. On our recent Elation cruise we had six price drops ranging from $20 to $80 for a total of $210. Each time I called my PVP and within minutes I had an email confirming the new rate. Love my PVP

Every little bit adds up. I booked my cruise (Pride May 28) a year out. Booked 2 ocean view cabins for 4- was initially pssted at about 2900. Whenever I saw a price drop, I jumped on it. For me, it seemed every Wednesday the prices dropped. One Wednesday I called my agent for 3 price drops- she said she has never seen that happen in 20 years. In 7 months since booking, we saved about $600 dollars- because this was before final payment, the price of the cruise was less... We were totally happy with this. At this point, prices for balcony cabins dropped to less than what my ocean view was. So I switched to the balcony cabins for less than my ocean views.

 

Final payment came... And a price drop on balconies came around... After 3 balcony price drops, we ended up spending $2100 for each balcony cabin for 4 people. PLUS and additional $125 in onboard credit because the drops happened after final payment

 

 

All said and done, we upgraded to 2 balcony cabins, saved ourselves $800 compared to what we were going to spend, and have $125 onboard credit per cabin.

 

 

 

 

So definitely, whenever you see a price drop, TAKE IT. check prices daily and request the change asap as sometimes they disappear as fast as they appear

I fill out the form for any amount. Got one cruise from $760.00 down to $530.00. $10.00 at a time but it all added up to over $200.00 per person.

I always look for price drops and call if it's at least $20.00. They never seem to mind doing fm over the phone and then sending a confirmation email.

I just cancelled a 14 day cruise and the price drops so far had amounted to $660.00. I sure hated to cancel and lose the big price decreases but a better cruise came along so I am happy with that!
