Galveston Cruises

I realize that it is early yet but is anyone out there that has booked the Grand out of Galveston this fall. I and my companian are booked on 11/27 and would like to hear from anyone who has plans for this cruise. My main question is if there will be enough parking in Galveston for three cruise ships.

We're booked on the Grand in December and absolutely can't wait to experience our first Princess cruise! We've cruised out of Galveston before and found this port to be much more organized and in general a less painful embarkation/debarkation than New Orleans by a long shot.

From observation only, the parking didn't seem to be a problem either. On our prior cruise out of Galveston, we opted to stay at a hotel that allowed cruisers to park their vehicles at the hotel for the week. The hotel shuttled the cruisers to the port and then picked them up after the cruise and delivered them back to the hotel.

This cruise we're thinking about just driving in the morning of the cruise and using a lot nearby. There's a thread on the Carnival board regarding a company (www.EZCruiseParking.com) that you might want to follow. They offer parking for a seven day cruise at the rate of $35. They are located a block and a half from the port, and they shuttle you and your luggage to/from as well. You can contact the company via their website to reserve and pay for your space ahead of time so that you are assured that you have a parking space. I have not personally used this company, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread for feedback on the company.

My wife and I just returned from the 5/15 Diamond Princess to Alaska (our second cruise). IF we do another cruise most likely we will do the Western Caribbean or the Panama Canal. Being in San Antonio the idea of leaving out of Galveston is very appealing. For those of you who have experienced cruising out of Galveston is fall the time to go - what are your recommendations?

I am going on the Grand 12/28/04. How far and how long does it take to go from San Antonio to Galveston. We are flying in before Xmas to stay in San Antonio and then driving a rental car to Galveston. I love San Antonio I was born there and my aunt wants to see it that why we are going.

[My husband and I took a RCCL cruise last May out of Galveston and stayed at the Holiday Inn. They offer free parking to cruisers and they shuttle you to the ship and then pick you up when you get back in. It worked out great and we saved $60 in parking fees.

I know people must think I work for this website, but it's such a great resource for stuff like this: www.galvestoncruises.com

You can find out about parking, hotels that offer pre- and post-cruise packages, all sorts of stuff. It's very helpful!

Hope it helps someone else. Now if Disney would just sail a ship from Galveston, it would be perfect! But I'm soooooo excited about sailing on the Grand... so take that, Disney. James, we're cruising Grand on 11/20 and will try and keep the ship in "ship-shape" for you! This is our 3rd cruise out of Galveston and we LOVE it!

Until the turkey in the tropics cruise!
