Victory - Canada and New England

Hi all,

We are thinking of taking the Victory to Canada and New England next September. Can anyone offer any opinions on this cruise?

We are both in our early 30's and have taken the Glory around the Caribbean and the Liberty around the Med - and loved every minute!

Thanks

Neil

My husband and I went on this cruise 2 years ago in June. It was our first cruise and I wanted my husband to give it a try. Being new to cruising we booked an inside room and was upgraded to a oceanview room. To us Victory was a nice boat, not exceptional . The food was great and being our first time we loved getting second dinners. Bring warm clothes even in Sept. The wind on the deck is cold to swim, yes they do have an enclosed area but it was full most of the time. If I were to do Canada again I would pick July or August. Hope this helps.

Neil,

Nancy is right the crowd will be a little older especially if you are going in Sept. I have done this cruise on the Victory twice-Once in August and once in July. However, I did take a Canadian on the Legend in 2002 in the beginning of October and loved that time of year. For one thing we didn't experience the fog enroute like we did on the cruises during the summer months. The Victory will afford you plenty of fun things to do. We loved Peggy's Cove in Halifax, and we also liked the Duck Tour. In St John we took somekind a powerboat thing at the Reversing Falls which aged me a few years, but DH loved it. Our daughter and finance came with us they are 26 & 27 and had a great time together and did meet a few couples. She did tell me she liked that there where less younger people (she has cruised with us many times) because there was less smoke in the casino and bars.

Hope this helps Like I always say a cruise beats housework.

We did this early August last year and had a good time.

The ship is great. We had an aft wraparound cabin (9A?) which was amazing.

Unfortunately, though, the weather was terrible. On the way up it was cold and pea soup fog and rain. Our day in Halifax was cold and damp. The return trip at least was sunny, but very cold.

Mind you this was the beginning of August.

So, if you go prepared and don't mind cold/wet/foggy weather, you'll be OK.

But again, the ship was great. Food very good, staff incredibly friendly, everything well kept up.

This was our first cruise ever, two years ago. The Victory is a fine ship and you will enjoy the traditional benefits. Don't foget the pastrami sandwiches in the deli! Canada is not the most exciting destination in the world for cruisers. Halifax is a neat city to wander, with a great boardwalk. St. John seems to be like a sleepy town. Still, how can you go wrong on a cruise?
