roger75 Posted November 23, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 23, 2005 OK, this is my first cruise so I booked an inside guarantee for the Nov. 26 sailing of the Caribbean Princess and today (four days away) the cruise line finally posted my cabin on the Cruise Personalizer. They gave me cabin P301. This is on the Plaza deck and it's actually an oceanview double. I would assume that is an upgrade. It is category D which is not listed as an unobstructed view. The only problems that I can maybe see with it is that the room is on the lowest level of the ship, along with the art gallery and one of the dining rooms. Plus it is also noted as a room with unconvertable twin beds. If anyone has stayed in a similar room, can you let me know what to expect? Also, since I booked a guarantee, is this still subject to change? Please let me know.

Moondawgie Posted November 23, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 23, 2005 Excellent location. There will be the least motion lower and mid-ship and you are near the stairs for a quick run up to the action. The only sort of maybe thing to note is the casino is above you and there possibly may be some noise (but not definitely). Other than that, I think it's a great upgrade! Have a great time. roger75 Posted November 23, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted November 23, 2005 Thanks for the updates guys. I didn't know if being on the bottom of the ship was "punishment" for paying a lower rate. I did have a friend tell me that the inside cabins were better for sleeping because they were darker and you couldn't feel as much motion. But, I can always stay in an inside cabin if I like cruising and at least take advantage of the free upgrade!!!!
MichTraveler Posted November 23, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 23, 2005 ...Plus it is also noted as a room with unconvertable twin beds. If anyone has stayed in a similar room, can you let me know what to expect? .... Princess site often lists "unconvertable twin beds" when most of the time they can be pushed together to form a "double". Your steward can change for you when you check in if they are not as desired. An upgrade from inside to outside is multiple steps up. That inside could also have been on the lowest level. Many prefer lower for a little less rock -n- roll. bdjam Posted November 23, 2005 #6 Share Posted November 23, 2005 Inside cabins are, of course, darker, but the cabins I’ve stayed in have black out curtains…so it’s pretty dark with them closed. You got a big upgrade…congrats.
Pam in CA Posted November 23, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 23, 2005 I love being on the Plaza deck. It's close to the shops, the dining rooms, the Pursars Desk, the library, etc. When you come back from a long day in port, you don't have to climb lots of stairs or wait for the elevator. You're also closer to the bars and lounges. :) The only thing you might hear, depending on your cabin location, are the stabilizers if they are extended in rough seas. mringenoldus Posted November 23, 2005 #8 Share Posted November 23, 2005 I had a Plaza deck cabin in October (but was upgraded to a balcony) I actually went to look at the location that P301 would have been and it is a very quiet private area. You will enjoy having some natural light in the cabin. You could still be moved - but you won't be placed lower than catagory D.
lucy2222 Posted November 23, 2005 #9 Share Posted November 23, 2005 I had that "unconvertable Twin Bed" thing on my cruise personalizer, I just called Princess, and they changed it to Queen bed for me.
roger75 Posted November 23, 2005 Author #10 Share Posted November 23, 2005 Thanks for all the info. I do have one more question. Some of you have said that I got "multiple upgrades". I would have assumed that to move from an inside cabin to an oceanview would be a one level upgrade. But, now I've seen in the forums where people keep an inside room even though they are upgraded. I'm assuming you can keep the same type of room, but be upgraded to a "better" floor?
merela Posted November 23, 2005 #11 Share Posted November 23, 2005 My parents got upgraded from obstructed view on the Emerald Deck to the front of the ship on the Plaza deck with unobstructed view. It's not a good upgrade since it was far forward of the ship and the whipping sound from the waves hitting the ship can be jarring. In hindsight, the obstructed view room on the Emerald Deck would have been a better choice. You would think higher up on the floor is a better upgrade, but not necessarily. The best location during rough seas is midship Plaza deck, so I think P301 is a great location. Yes, getting from inside to unobstructed oceanview is a multiple upgrade because there are several obstructed oceanview rooms categories between inside and unobstructed oceanview categories.
