MSC Disembarkation / Embarkation in Naples

We will be on the Meravigilia later this month, sailing from Naples. It will be our cruise MSC cruise.

I understand that disembarkation & embarkation will happen at every port on this itinerary. With that logic, then not all passengers will embark/disembark in Naples thus the process should not be too bad. The ship docks in Naples at 13:00.

1. How soon after it docks can the new passengers board?

2. What is the latest MSC require the passengers to disembark?

We will be traveling from Rome. I need to figure out the timing so I can purchase our train tickets.

TIA!

When embarking in Naples, at least when we did it, was the only of our 4 MSC cruises where they enforced boarding groups rigidly (probably to avoid crowding/pushing). Thus, our experience was that it did no good to arrive before the boarding time on your ticket in Naples (whereas in other ports people generally just got in line even if they were early and it proceeded pretty smooth. On the back end, boarding continued almost until the normal passenger return time printed on the itinerary.

Thank you for the response! I completely missed seeing the boarding time that is stated on our ticket! How soon before our boarding time should we arrive at the port? I assume there is a check in process (check luggage, go through security, etc)?

On the return (back end), I did not quite understand this. Are you saying we can stay on the ship until almost when then ship docks? Ship docks at 1300. I am wondering if a train ticket about 1500 - 1600 is ok? Or will we have a lot of wait time once we get to the train station.

It takes about 30 min to get through baggage check and security to get to the waiting area if you can handle Naples cues (no cue). We went 3 hours before our designated time and waited over two hours at the final waiting area to board. However we probably beat a lot of people through the pre-requisite baggage check line to get to the pre-embark waiting area. When you disembark you will leave bags out the night before and go to the lounge for your assigned group disembarkation time which you will learn the night before the cruise ends. I would guess 1600 might be ok?

I may have double posted this same question.

Larsgary - on the day of disembarkation in Naples, do you have to exit immediately off the ship after it docks? I am curious if we can linger around the ship after it docks. Also, can we have lunch that day? Thanks!

Sorry to hear you had a bad embarkation experience. I would have imagined that it would be straightforward due to less numbers getting onboard here.

Did you have lunch on disembarkation day or hang around like you were considering doing?

Did you also board at Naples?

It was so disorganized at the port. There was no personnel directing passengers where to line up to check in. Then when it came time to board, NO QUEUING! People just pushed one another to get to be the next person to check in. Mom got separate from us in that mess and people wouldn't let her through to catch up with us. It felt so uncivilized. I found this to be the same at the buffet. Remember, we are the commoners and not part of your YC. :-)

I want to try the yacht club, but do not want to do so with a 7 year old. I would not her to disrupt the tranquility of the YC.

By the time we finally boarded on the ship it was close to 330PM. The buffet was not open. I did not leave the ship once we boarded for fear of having to deal with that craziness again.

As for disembarkation day, we had lunch on the ship and then left. Half of our group did not have a good time on the ship and wanted off. My husband, mom and I enjoyed our cruise regardless of the issues we had with MSC messing up my booking. One cabin was upgraded from Oceanview Fantastica to Balcony Bella. They would ont give us the drink vouchers until they verified with seaside office even though I had our confirmation printed out. They told me that Fantastica experience does not come with drink vouchers; that US vs European Fantastica eperience are different. Not sure if this true.

We got on in Barcelona and had a butler escort onto the ship. Why MSC cannot deal with the problem of queuing is beyond me!

As to the issue with the drinks vouchers - as long as MSC continue to have different set-ups in different regions, there's going to be problems with situations like this. The fact that things can't be sorted by Guest Relations onboard is ridiculous in this day and age!

There would be absolutely no problem having a 7 year old in YC! There are very few children normally in YC but there's never a problem - the butlers are wonderful with them, too. They miss their own families and children and so they love to interact with others as a result.

I worried about having to bother other people who are there to relax. We would probably really enjoy the YC. We are in a balcony for Seaside in Jan 2018. I'm going to check if YC is available.

Looks like YC is fully booked for our sail date.

We were not too thrilled about the food on Meravigilia. I do not know if it is due to itinerary (and we were not used to the food) or it's MSC. By going on Seaside, we should be able to figure that out. Since Seaside will leave from Miami, I wonder if the food will be geared towards the NA clients???

Regardless, for the price difference between MSC and Royal, DH and I used that $ to eat at the specialty restaurants on the Meravigilia. We didn't care for the Sushi restaurant but really liked the Butcher's Cut.

That's a shame. Looks like Seaside - especially Yacht Club - has captured people's imagination in the US.

Perhaps you can enjoy the speciality restaurants onboard for the $$ saved? I reckon the menus in the MDRs will be more suited to US tastes onboard, too. The whole theme seems to be geared toward the US market.

The food on Meraviglia in YC was far better than what I'm seeing on another thread from the MDR menus. We enjoyed every meal! We also loved the Butcher's Cut and visited twice. Sushi is not our thing so we passed on that!

That's what we did on Meravigilia - the $ saved we ate at the speciality restaurants. Too bad we did not discover Butcher's Cut until the last night onboard. Otherwise, we would have been there more often. The MDR menu on Meravigilia was limited, in comparison to other cruise lines we have been on. Additionally, they were not flexible to our dietary needs. Our 7 y.o. is a picky eater. She loves plain pasta. In the MDR, they do not offer plain pasta for her, if you can believe that!

Hello! I have the same question. Will be on Seaview in September 2018, embarking and disembarking Naples. Ship arrives same time 13:00. Need to confirm how much time i should allow from the ship's arrival time to disembark and get to the Naples Centrale train station for a train from Naples to Rome. Is there any customs line to go through leaving the ship? I'm thinking not since ship remains in EU whole itinerary I think.. Also are there TSA style security check in lines at the train station I need to budget time for? I see the station is approximately 15 minutes from the port by car. We are in Yacht Club so know i will have priority disembarkation, just curious about the customs/security situation as this is our first cruise in the Mediterranean.

Thanks!

Brian
