h_blond2 Posted June 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2017 It's been a month since the cruise, but better late than never! A little background...we are mother daughter pair from southeast Missouri who cruise every summer. Mom is a music teacher and I am a school librarian. This was my 9th cruise and mom's 12th. We drove to Saraland the day before the cruise and checked into our room. We had stayed here before and were just as pleased with their park and cruise package as we were the last time. The morning of the cruise was easy....hop in the shuttle, speed pass the crazy long line waiting to get into the terminal, drop off luggage, get checked in, and wait. We were in zone 1 and were in the ship in under an hour from when we got dropped off. We quickly noticed the Southeast Missouri Showstoppers waiting in our area. These kids are excellent singers and are from towns in our area. They put on three great shows on the ship. The muster drill was pretty painless and we were on our way! I'm honestly not sure what we did that first night, but it included dinner and taking pictures with Sam I Am! h_blond2 Posted June 22, 2017 Author #2 Share Posted June 22, 2017 The first sea day was spent lounging in the sun for a few hours and people watching on the Promenade deck. I believe this was also the night of the Motown Show. We both loved it. It was also on this night that Mikey (the best cruise director) made the announcement that a passenger was experiencing medical emergency and our itinerary was being reversed. We would be in Cozumel the next day from 8-6 and Costa Maya the following day from 8-2. We rolled with the punches and got ready to spend a long day in Cozumel! h_blond2 Posted June 22, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted June 22, 2017 Cozumel....we have been here several times and have our favorite beach that we always visit. When we pulled in, it was raining, but oh well! That wasn't going to stop our fun! We got off the ship and did a little shopping. I actually managed to only by a few things for my boyfriend...my self control was in top shape that day! We then got back on the ship to drop off our bags before heading to the beach. When were in our room the power went out for about 30 seconds and we never did find out why...that was definitely a first. As we were headed back to out we saw a diver diving around the front of the ship...that was definitely another first. We hopped in a taxi and headed down to Playa Palancar. We go here every year and we just love it. It is geared mostly to adults and has no pool or water toys. We found our chairs, met our waiter and settled in for the day. The weather was windy, partly cloudy and the water was pretty rough. The water wasn't as clear and calm as it usually is, but what can you do? We ate lunch on the beach and bought the photo that they take of you when you arrive at the beach. It was $12 and an excellent souvenir. We headed back to the ship about 3:30 and got cleaned up so we could be up top for sail away. Let me tell you it was WINDY and we watched a rain storm head right for the ship. h_blond2 Posted June 22, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted June 22, 2017 Costa Maya We had originally booked spots at the Piataya Beach Club, but canceled those after the itinerary changed. We first though it was going to be entirely too rough to spend time at the beach, so we just decided to wing it. We walked around the port for awhile and decided to get a taxi to take us to Mahahual, which is the town about 3 miles from the port. The ride was $6 for the two of us. The taxi driver drove us to the middle of the malecon. We walked the malecon from one end to the other. It was pretty empty when we first got there, which we enjoyed. We ultimately spent time of a beach that was deserted and we enjoyed the time away from the crowds. We hadn't realized that the beaches at Mahahual have natural barriers, so the water was calm and clear. We did a little shopping as we were headed back to get a taxi and I got my Christmas ornaments! We also were invited to browse in a store which was a co-op for a town a put two hours inland. The teens in that town made most of the items in the store. Mom and I both bought hand painted bowls. It was easy to get a taxi back to ship and it only cost $4 to go back. We did a little more shopping at the port and headed back to the ship. We spent a few more hours in the sun, but it was an early day. We were both in bed by 6 pm. The winds that night were rough...around 50 mph. Mom and I both felt pretty bad. The seas that night were the worst I have ever experienced. I was glad we only had one night of that weather! h_blond2 Posted June 22, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted June 22, 2017 Last sea day The weather was still rainy on the last sea day, so we spent a lot of time reading, doing trivia, drinking hot chocolate (because my pasty self had managed to get a sunburn and I was cold!), we watched the Showstoppers perform and did our packing for the next morning. Debarkation was kind of crazy...the ramp couldn't be attached to ship so instead of leaving from deck 7, we had to go to the deck where you exit the ship in the ports. Customs was a breeze and we were on our shuttle and back to our car in no time! If you have any questions, please ask and I will do my best to answer them! h_blond2 Posted June 22, 2017 Author #16 Share Posted June 22, 2017 Ok. Thanks! Sorry, another question, do you remember what time the shuttle left to go to the port? It depends on your check in time. We had an 11:00 check in time and our shuttle left at 10:45. h_blond2 Posted June 25, 2017 Author #25 Share Posted June 25, 2017 Thanks for the review. If you shuttle in from a stay and cruise do you skip the traffic lines? Yes you do. The shuttles get to drop you off right on front of the doors. The traffic was insane when we cruised. Some people waited in line over 2 hours and we were on the ship, eating lunch in less than an hour.
