UsedtoBeKati Posted June 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2017 Hi - we'll be sailing on Carnival Sunshine in July, and hoping that our 4-year-old might enjoy Camp Carnival for an hour or two during our cruise. How are the activities for the 3-5 year olds? Is it more fun or educational based? Did your preschooler enjoy it?
Pyxie Posted June 25, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2017 My almost 4 year old loved it last year. She preferred to spend most of her time there (her choice, she wasn't forced to). They had different activities like games, arts and crafts, etc. She's also very social and makes friends with other kids easily so that's a factor to consider as well. springs741 Posted June 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 25, 2017 My granddaughter had just turned 5 and she loved being there. When we were on board she asked often when she could go see her friends. If she was picked up early she asked to stay until it was "over". I was also impressed with the security. He daddy would drop her off and she is a mini him and he was still required to present his S&S card. I know some would think this overkill but when it involves safety and security of little ones corners shouldn't be cut.
gannk Posted June 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 25, 2017 My 2 and 4 year olds had a great time at Camp Ocean. They actually begged us to take them every day! They had a mixture of education and fun with a bigger emphasis on fun or at least that's how it seemed from what my 4yo told me. They learned about sea creatures, then colored them. They played a lot of games and had great age appropriate toys. They had a magic act that he STILL talks about, and their evening parties are great. Quilcruisers Posted June 26, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 26, 2017 My son went to camp from about 3 years old until he turned 11. He always had the best time both during the day and for night owls. We allowed him to skip dinner a few nights and have dinner with the campers. The staff always were very professional and the kids seemed to enjoy being there. They had movie nights most nights and the kids had somewhere safe to go while we went to shows or played in the casino. Once my son turned 12 he didn't want to go anymore but he is more of a gamer and enjoys playing video games versus dancing and socializing like before. He still does the pool and stuff during the day but in the evenings he goes to the game room or watches movies. The teen clubs seem nice but not as structured as the kids club so I think that is why my son chose not to continue. Lerin Posted June 26, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 26, 2017 Our kids, niece and nephews have been going to camp since they were 2 (oldest is 11 now) and LOVE it. 1 child was only able to stay for a few hours a day when she was very little due to some separation anxiety, but all the rest have been upset and even cried if we "picked them up too early". There are schedules for the kids clubs posted online. Do a search, it will give you an idea of what sorts of activities to expect. I used to have one saved, I'll try to find it for ya Can't find it, but here's one someone posted on cc. It's 2 years old, but will give you an idea. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2208476
BNBR Posted June 26, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 26, 2017 My 2 and 4 year old loved it immensely. They spent a lot of time there. Always some sort of craft project or face painting or something going on. We took home several of their craft projects! The camps on cruise ships tend to be very active with lots of activities. cherbear4000 Posted June 26, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 26, 2017 I have cruised many, many times with my nieces and nephews. I can tell you, when given the choice of going to Camp Carnival or hanging out with family, they all pick Camp Carnival.
