pilotct Posted November 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2005 Any recommendations on beach snorkeling on Grand Cayman? We don't want to do any of the Stingray City trips. Thanks. :)
luv2snorkel Posted November 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 30, 2005 ... not a beach exactly, but close to the tender dock... just a short walk south of the tender pier. description is below... Snorkel site just few hundred yards from tender dock. Just walk to the right when you get to the road. Snorkeling is excellent. Scuba and snorkel rental at site. The first site has a small area great for young kids. Eden Rock is along a main road in Georgetown, with dive shop and restaurants along the road. There is no beach, since the old coral rock comes right up to the road. (Tom Kanitra) Absolutely phenomenal coral canyons, fish, etc. Turtle, huge Grouper, Tarpon, and very aggressive fish on the feed. Capt_BJ Posted November 30, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 30, 2005 If you want to see 'the good stuff' you need an area of iron shore, not sand beach. Eden Rock is nice, and close to the tender landing, and therefore will be crowded...maybe VERY crowded. Head down the same road (south)....I like Sunset House. They have an easy entry point. The reef is 'right there' just like Eden Rock. And there's a nice beach bar for after.... The crowd wil be much less. Probably the only ship folks you'll see will be crew that head this far to be away from passengers! SunsetHouse.com There are other places along the road too. This is just one. cruisetexas Posted November 30, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 30, 2005 We did a land based trip to Grand Cayman a few years ago and stopped at "Cemetery Reef". It was a nice beach and you could swim out to the reef. We had a cab take us out there and told him what time to come back for us and it was no problem at all. I'm not sure of the condition of the beach/reef since the hurricanes, though. There are no facilities at this location, either...renting equipment or potties. Have a great trip!
