cdr1215 Posted August 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Hello! I will be going on my second cruise on August 30th, 24 more days! My first cruise was on the carnival paradise and this cruise will be on the carnival ecstasy. Carnival paradise was an older ship and so is ecstasy. Has anyone been on ecstasy since it's been updated this year? What are your thoughts? Also, our interior state room is at the back Of the boat and I've heard terrible things about a sewage smell. Is this accurate? It has me terrified because I do horrible with smells. Also, we are going to Freeport and princess Cays, which one is best to do the beach day at? What do y'all suggest for each place? Thanks!!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
DirtybirdDave Posted August 6, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Can't answer for the ship, but just left Princess Cays and Freeport. Princess Cays is a private beach so that would be the most logical. Just note that if you are getting in the water and have tender feet, I'd recommend wearing some type of water shoes. Is the water pretty and clear or is there a lot of seaweed and stuff ? Sent from my iPhone using Forums

bobsfamily Posted August 6, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Hello! I will be going on my second cruise on August 30th, 24 more days! What do y'all suggest for each place? Thanks!!! First off for plenty of info about Ecstasy and Charleston the port look at this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2438706 Lots of good info! As for the ship we were on her last year and had a great time. We had an oceanview cabin and it was a 7 night cruise. We most likely will go on her sometime later this year or next year - it's at 15 minute drive from home! It is an older ship but has aged well, the staff is wonderful! I've never smell a continuous "sewage" smell but whiffs I've smell on every ship and every line I've been on... part of ship life. Hopefully your experience will be the same! Freeport you dock in a industrial area that does have a bunch of shops and a Senor Frogs and a couple of other places to drink right at the port. Other than that it's either a cab ride to Our Lucaya (beach and shopping/casino) or an excursion thru Carnival or a private one... some of the cabs will offer them or plenty of websites that do. Princess Cay is a private island that you tender to, is owned by Carnival Corp. and you will be fed on the island by your ship. There should be some vendors that accept cash but everything else will be paid for with you SS card. I don't think the Cheers package is valid on the island (it still works on the ship while anchored). Hope this helps, have a wonderful cruise! We will be on the Triumph at the time... DirtybirdDave Posted August 6, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Water is very clear. We took a few pics, but I'd just use google and YouTube to get a better idea.
NCTribeFan Posted August 6, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Come on over and join our roll call. Not very active, but some of us have sailed more than once and may have some helpful hints. I've seen many posts from people about sewage smells on various ships. Honestly, the only time I've ever noticed it even remotely (Carnival #27 coming up) is when in port. And it's never been constant and overwhelming. Not something I'd worry about. I obsess about a lot of things, but not about my cruises. They're the only time I even remotely "go with the flow." ;p

We just stayed at the rented clamshells.

NCTribeFan Posted August 7, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 7, 2017 Have a great time, Bob. I'd looked at booking something from New Orleans this fall but I'm doing another HAL cruise in November (my solo birthday cruise). I do try to direct everyone with questions about sailing from Charleston to the great, informative threads on the East Coast Departures board. I'm splurging this time and staying at the Andrew Pinckney Inn. Tiny room but parking is included for the cruise. I'm just going to drag my bag over to the ship in the morning. It's not more than a few blocks. Need the exercise to work off the Shrimp & Grits I plan on having the night before! Oh, and my cruise pals upgraded to The Owner's Suite! So, I'm in my lowly 1A on Riviera but will get to hang out in their suite. :D

You will really enjoy being able to hang out there. We had 17 people so it was nice to have a spot to meet up and hang out. But you will love it! Enjoy your cruise!
