Best way to get to Port of Civitavecchia

Hi Everyone,

We will be renting a car from FCO and driving through Tuscany for a few days before our cruise departure. I know the port is very restrictive on vehicles entering the port.

In your opinion, what is the best way to drop off rental car and get into the port with the least amount of effort. Can we drop of luggage first? Are there car rental companies within the port? Can Taxis enter the port? We would like to return car to Civitavecchia versus FCO.

Thanks!

You can drop off one (or more) of your group along with the luggage at the free shuttle bus stop, it's before the secure entrance to the port.

Taxis can enter the port, or you can have them take you back to the free shuttle bus stop (that would be a lot less expensive). Depending on the rental car company, the office may be within walking distance of the port anyway.
